Would you live under glass, like an aquarium to avoid pollution and greenhouse gas effects and uv rays and things like this?

You also have control on climate inside. U get ur fare share of snow, rain and sunshine.

It is a good idea because of all the pollution keeping outside. No need to create new cities of glass though. Exisiting cities can be covered with glass and nearbt ciities can be covered by tunnels or covered highways. Only planes should fly out. This way we'll save a lot of power. But on the flip side the wold will miss winter olympics in full flavor, there will be no formula 1 either and lots of other things will be either extinct or banned.

You may want to watch your children grow up with rickets, but I certainly don't! You want to substitute a real greenhouse for a hypothetical greenhouse? Are you not aware that the air pollution in Denver and the L.A. basin is severe because the pollutants generated by those cities can't diffuse normally some of the time? From where do you propose to get the energy to air condition your domed city, and how much do you think that will add to overall atmospheric pollution? Lastly, glass being a supercooled liquid, would thin out at the top of the dome, and shatter in a natural hailstorm. Better make your dome out of Lexan. Oops, Lexan is a plastic made from crude oil!

No. It would mean we're saying to the industry "Feel free to make much more pollution, we don't care." If such a mental is put into the industry minds, some unprecedented effects of pollution might occur, for example, how are we going to get clean water, the source of life, if the industry pollutes all water. How are we going to get air, another source of life, inside the glass dome, without sucking the outside air in, since outside air is so polluted, and without the need to pay monthly for clean air, because air filtering or artificial photosynthesis is not cheap. Where would the money to make such a big dome of glass come from? What about native tribes, some are conservative enough to refuse any changes to their environment, even if that is for their own good (some doesn't even allow outsiders to come into their area). What if the glass dome breaks, the shards would fall into the city, and the polluted air would come into the city (as to be noted, people who lives in a polluted city happens to have stronger body resistance against pollution, when you take away such pollution, the next time they get feel of the pollution, it'll be much more deadly to them even for the same level of pollution). Finally, what about land and soil, pollution would affect the soil, and the ground water circulation is a natural process that is fairly impossible to control, and to plant a glass dome under a city would almost ultimately require a complete reconstruction of the whole city.

How about transportation? Surely it would be much more expensive to make bigger or longer roads, which would reduce the capability of the country to create this most vital infrastructure of a country's economy. How about industry workers, would they have to sacrifice themselves working in the outside polluted environment, while their company won't buy them an expensive anti-pollution suit, because of financial reasons.

What about farming, farming is still the largest food source, and farming requires good soil, water, and air both in quantity and in quality. Farmlands are usually huge-sized land, which would then require a very large dome, for a sparsely populated area. We'll end up needing to cover the almost the whole earth with glass dome to protect: cities, urban areas, farmlands, forests, tribes, water sources, etc.

It's a brilliantly good idea, however it's currently underdeveloped, ideas, it would require much, much more thinking and planning before it is ever capable of being done.

No I wouldn’t. My reason would be cost. A city in glass? Are you nuts? The Co2 scrubbers alone would brake the bank.

I suppose it would be something to try. However, I am not sure how many people would enjoy being bottled up.

Cheers!
