My mother is an atheist, my father is a christian only when his church can get him out of things like Vietnam. (Conscientious Objector) So I was raised with no religion at all in my life. Never believed in God. Chose to follow the Buddhist way of life because it seemed to be logical and yet heartfelt. No-one chose it for me.

For me, I selected my religion. Yes, I did have influences from my parents, but I also had influences coming from my friends, and other people around me. My parents are Christian, but not 'hard-core', we don't go to church and it's mostly just believing the Golden Rule: Treat others the way you want to be treated. Religion doesn't have to be complicated, just knowing what is right, what is wrong, and if you do the right things, you go to a good place in the end. Simplicity at its best! :-)

Being a realist?

My parents were non-practising Jews, and I'm a non-practising Jew.

My parents taught me a certain way to look at the world and think. They taught me a specific way to analyze data.

As I've gotten older I;ve expanded on what they taught....but the reality is that I still look at things in a very similar way that I did when I was 12. I just have more reason...or stubborness....behind it now.

I did. I have my own cult. I am the leader and the other 36 members are all women. The requirement for my followers is they must wear at least a 36 C or above, they have to wear tight tops and their cleavage has to show, especially when they bend over facing me. They also have to wear a short tight skirt and be blonde and voluptuous. At our meetings they have to attend in high heels and carry a whip for effect although it is not officially used. No underwear is allowed.
What goes on at the meetings however is highly secret but I will say its very pleasant.

:)

my parents did. However, I studied many religions and attended other churches and came back to the religion I was in as a child because it made the most since to me.

I'm born Muslim, when I became an adult, I read all religions of the word unbiasedly, with complete objectivity, than reconfirmed Islam as my religion.
So I'm the one who selected my religion for me.

You are exposed to a certain religion by your parents.
Then as you become older you pick what is right for you or you just keep the basic beliefs taught by your parents.

For me, i found true Christianity.

Glory be and behold, then i said: "woman, give me your little truth." and thus spoke the little old woman: "you are going to women? do not forget the whip!" while considering that, Even when all the possible scientific questions have been answered, the problems of life remain completely untouched. lest ye shall not forget, this world is the will to power—and nothing besides! and you yourselves are also this will to power—and nothing besides!

Martin Luther dedicated himself to writing a Bible common people could read. So, I would say, he did. Of course, God Himself had a hand in all that, and I am thankful He did. I am a Lutheran of the Missouri Synod.
