Here in Australia we put Vegemite on it, this is a high salt, B vitamin sandwich spread. Try babies teething gel, over the counter mouth ulcer treatment, mouth wash.
It all depends how often you get them actually. If you get them frequently then perhaps you need to start using a mouthwash 3 or so times a day. And up your Vitamin C intake.

i usually mouthwash with a strong mouthwash (listerine) ... for no less than about a FULL minute. then use salt water. (warm cup of water with about 3 teaspoons of salt in it for about a minute) ... and don't lie anymore (just kidding)

I take a pair of scissors and carefully cut it off. Better to have pain for one second (cutting it off) than to suffer for days with those tiny little painful buggers.
