I've been "dating" this guy for about a yr. now he's a sweetie and I care about him, however; I have my whole life ahead of me and his older brother informed me that for my birthday he was going to get me a promise ring!!.. ahhh! I don't know how I feel about this...a lil creeped out. How would you handle this situation? How about when he actually presented the ring to you?

There is something you must to think. Maybe you are not ready now, buy ask yourself this question. Is the next person that comes, going to be better or worst than him. Time passes and not in vain.

I don't think that a promise ring is going to hurt. Maybe he just wanted to give you a ring to confirm your going steady. You know you date just him and he dates just you. What can it hurt. People that get engaged don't always stay engaged. Take the ring if your planning on dating just him for now but if you break up with him you should give it back if he wants it. And when you get the ring make sure you both have the same conclusion of what the ring is representing, weather it's a promise to marry some day or just used to say your steady.

To accept or not, that depends on how much you love him. What do you mean by "dating"? Are these serious dates or just for fun?Mature people don't date for fun. How sure are you that he's getting you a promise ring just by listening to his older brother? And what do you mean by a promise ring? Are you saying a wedding ring? I'd be real happy if my boyfriend proposes to me with a wedding ring sealed with promises. At this stage, you don't have to crack your head thinking of what he'll give you. What if his older brother lied to you? The best thing that you can do is stay cool and never bring the issue on promise ring up to your boyfriend until he gives you one himself.

well if your not sure on accepting the ring of course you can't what i would probably do so he won't be embarrased and have alrady boughten it is go back to his brother and say your flattered but your not ready for that step yet and how would i go about telling your brother so he isn't hurt. And he will know already to have a talk with his brother . So there is not embarrasement down the road

It seems you are not sure what you want out of this relationship. Regardless of whether you have "your whole life in fount of you" or not, if you don't feel that you want to get too serious, you should let him know, especially if he presents a ring to you. I am only 20 and have been w/ my bf for 2 yrs, and I know hes the one I want to be with. I still have my whole life in fount of me, I just want to share it with him. That is the difference. Just think it over and let him know if you are feeling unsure or just want to see how things go without the pressure of future commitments. Good Luck.

Take it with a grain of salt and be honest with him about your intentions and his. I received a promise ring andwear it to this day (Im still with the giver) - Im still waiting for the next ring (engagment) - which I know will be a while yet so Im making the most of knowing he did give me something to show his intentions.

well how old are you? you say you have your whole life to live but if you're with someone that loves you the way he must to be thinking about a promise ring and if he is someone that you love then you should feel lucky to have found him. if he isn't someone you're willing to spend the rest of your life with then he needs to know that or you need to tell him that you aren't ready to take that step yet.

all in all, just be honest and up front.
