Isopropyl alcohol is a good anti-infective, but it will be painful on an open wound. You might want to just wash the wound out with sterile water. There is a commercial product called Wound Wash Saline. It is a can of sterile saline that can be used to flush out wounds.
You will not get infected from isopropyl alcohol, but if the wound is really dirty is might not be strong enough to clean it out. It might also dry the wound out a bunch which is not good for wound healing. If the wound is really dirty, you might want to see a doctor.

Honestly, I'm not really sure, however, I vaguely remember reading or hearing that it's not a good idea to try to disinfect an open wound with isopropyl alcohol ('rubbing' alcohol). I wonder if hydrogen peroxide is ok. Please do check with your dr if unsure, and if the wound looks deep or is bleeding profusely, please to go to your nearest ER since deep wounds need to be attended to promptly and can get infected and worse if not treated. Take good care!
P.S. Just to add and second what others have said about neosporin or some type of bacterial ointment and then sterile bandage, however, please do talk to your dr about the treatment if unsure of how serious the wound is and what type of antiseptic to use.

Just a note on all the people recommending neosporin. All triple antibiotic ointments should generally be avoided unless per-scribed by a Dr. A small percentage of the general population (15-30%) can develop an allergy to neomycin, the third antibiotic in almost all triple ointments. Plus overuse of antibiotics is causing more drug resistant organisms.

it's a disinfectant but boy will it set you on fire (not literally) it will burn like you're on fire though!
You'd be better off to put hydrogen peroxide on the wound unless it is a open wound larger than I'd say an inch or two in length and deeper than oh about a quarter to half inch deep then you'd need stitches or at least a butterfly bandage.

ALCOHOL OUCH............ You need peroxide right now, Alcohol can't infect anything, it's an anti-infectant. The pain caused by it is very unnecessary. Once you flush it out with peroxide, use an anti-biotic cream, like Neosporin or a generic.

No it won't. It's a disinfectant. The stinging you feel is the alcohol killing germs. Try peroxide, it stings less, and is just as effective, plus it's kinda fun to watch it bubble. That means it's working. Also, a little trivia, it's used for rocket fuel.
