I read about it and had a wee cry. I tell you that guy will roast in hell, and the three others who were with him and joined in the rape. They could have stopped it but they had no compassion. I can tell like me, you were also upset to hear of it. Thanks for bringing it to the notice of the people who did not know.

The truth is ''There is no excuse for such a war crime that you mention but this is only one crime of many committed by a 'low Life element in the American army'. It seems that the Iraqis raped and killed by American thugs just have to except their fate.
The real sad thing is that the American people think that they can defend such atrocities as this. Perhaps when an American gets caught tortured and his head cut off or when an American Woman soldier gets caught raped to death, the American public should stand up and laugh with the Iraqis and say Oh! well, 'that's war' What happened to that girl was worth more than a bunch of Americans defending the action of their sick army.

A very upset Red

Yes, and ???? While I disagree with what happened, it is something that affects every armed conflict that ever has been. Some are ignored by the leadership, others are punished for these acts. What one group did doesn't condemn the whole group. If we must rant about the failings of our people, should there not be equal ranting about what the other side has done, and will do again if given the chance? Does anyone remember the Jessica Lynch story? Should we not damn the Iraqi for that as well. I happen to know at least one of the team that got Jessica out of Iraq. I worked for him for about a year. If we are going to cry foul for anyone who does such as this, then we need to cry foul for all and treat all in the same way.

On the one hand, this case offers some hope that the US is able to force itself to discipline its own when they commit a crime against foreigners.
However, Paul Cortez will be eligible for parole within ten years while for committing the same crimes against Americans, he would, in many states now be on death row.
This demonstrates the American view of justice that equates the murder of four Iraqis to committing a robbery on US territory.

Anyone who conducts themselves in this manner should be prosecuted as they have been. Being in a war does not make you above the law. We should not be angry at our military as a whole or our government because of the actions of a few bad men. We should be proud of our government's willingness to prosecute these men as opposed to condoning their actions as other governments have done.

Keep in mind that the publicized actions of a handful (in the overall picture, they are just that a handful) of bad men completely underscore the good that so many of our servicemembers do for the individual iraqis that goes completely unnoticed. Death and destruction sells news, acts of kindness does not. What makes more headlines, Britney Spears & her latest fiasco, or the generosity of musicians like Bono. Since we here about her more, does that mean that all musicians are worthless, nope. If you live in a large city, what makes the headlines, the rape and killing of a child, or an act of kindness shown to a complete stranger.

Yes, there are bad men (who I refuse to call soldiers, even if they wear the uniform) some of them were not bad when they went to war, but have buckled under the stress, and made horrible decisions. But they are not the majority. The majority are good honest decent men and women who are there because they are told to be there, they may or may not believe in the governments intentions, but they are good honorable people, so they do the job the best they can, and try to make a positive impression on the iraqi's they run into.

Wow, Id never heard about this here in Britain, doesnt suprise me though that it hasnt had major coverage, we are used to the yanks trying to manipulate the war coverage, they are even refusing to hand over (for trial) the idiot pilots who fired on and killed our soldiers in a so-called friendly fire incident, they could see by the markings on the vehicles we werent the enemy and still fired, admitting theyd done wrong straight afterwards..on cockpit recordings! if the USA want to have the high moral ground they should stop acting like gun crazy assholes and let their soldiers face charges, the British government may be sucking up to them but the British public will vote Blair out for it and we can see what a war mongering ******** Bush is!

I don't think there's any conspiracy. In the UK its been all over the news, however I think the british obsession with celebrities is out of hand, distorting the percieved improtance by news editors.

Brittany Spears has had more press than this which in itself is sick

it sickens me to read what some of these so called American men say about not only this incident but many more, their mothers evidently fed them to much soy when they were growing up as there is not a damned man there , just a bunch of wossies, these men who you are so anxious to condemn were fighting for your damned freedom , and no doubt had been fighting for some time or should I say waiting to die, as the way our so called experts are running this war we will win it same as we did Viet Nam, there is no way you can win a P,C, war, when you go into combat you fight to win and by what ever terms you can manage to win by,waiting for some one to shoot at you is the stupidest rule any man in combat could ever hear.that is the same as giving a man a death sentence with no date, and being in a strange and foreign hostile land, waiting to die, very little hope of ever getting home make a man think and do all most any thing and since you holier than tho idiots have never been there , but you can damned sure condemn others who have , did you also spit on our men who came home it would be less evil
