If it is production, I don't see how we can't use Nuclear Energy and send the waste to so a desert where not one living organism can ever live... safely contained...

You are correct, future energy demands will almost certainly have to be met using nuclear power. Fossil fuels are bad for the environment and are not a limitless resource. The current state of solar, hydro, and wind power is such that it can only provide a fraction of the required electricity. New technologies will be required if nuclear fission power plants are not to be utilized. New technologies could include improving the efficiency of solar cells to the point where they are feasible or somehow developing usable fusion power plants.

Worried about containment? Well get a satellite view of Yucca, Nevada. Pan around a little and you will find a part of Nevada that looks "dimpled". Old underground nuclear weapons tests. Think anyone will drill down a thousand feet to see what the dimple is all about? Naah. Sealed, entombed, safe. I think part of the problem with waste disposal is that we want to make sure it is safe, so we plan to put it in safe containers in a safe place so we can go and look at it and assure ourselves that it is safe. What would happen if we just put it down a thousand foot hole and blew it up and made another dimple? Not such a dumb idea, actually.

Because containing it for a long time is the problem. What about the future? What happens if some society stumbles upon it and doesn't know what it is, or it's dangers?

I believe we are not able to contain/store energy to use when it is needed.. something other than batteries is sure to come along sooner or later.

None of the above. They help describe a good way to start thinking about the problem. The real challenge is...........

energy "APPLICATION".
