i have had acne since i was in 6th grade. i feel like i have tried everything. proactiv didnt work. differin didnt work. clearisil doesnt seem to be working. i used accutane, which truthfully seems to be the only thing that worked. the problem is that its side effects were terrible, and so they dont want me going on it again. but now it seems my breakouts are coming back, and my face is so oily that anything i try will not dry it out. is there something you have tried that worked, that maybe i havent tried yet? thanks!

Try Minocycline and also ask your skin doctor to perscribe Ziana- a
new acne gel, I dont know your age, but if you are old enough try birth control pills, which helps you not break out. Also, use a mild cleanser like cetaphil and moisturize with cetaphil. I am acen free now. Also, at night try applying primrose oil and vitamin E oil.

I used accutane twice and although it cleared my acne, it eventaully came back. Now I use the regimen above and I am clear skinned!

Best of luck:)

I have tried several different products, Proactiv works okay but it costs too much. You may not have Acne. There are other skin problems other than acne because Proactiv should work. They even have an extra strength brand for people with severe acne. Also Murad's (another on tv product) is really good for people who have other skin issues that are more severe. You should a determatologist to determine what skin condition you actually have because it may not be acne. Murad's should work, if it does not--I do not know what else would work for you. If your skin is oily try using Neutrogena facial Cleansing pads or even Clean & Clear facial wipes which pick up the oil on your face.

If would have helped if I knew if you were male or female, your age and ethnicity. Everyone's skin is different so what may work for me may not work for you. Also try not to eat oily foods--you are what you eat. There has to be a reason for your breakouts...if you are past puberty you should really consider seeing a doctor to help.

Aveno clear complextion foaming face wash. If that is too expensive use a fake Noxema; leave it on for about five minutes and wipe it off with a wash cloth. Wash your face twice per day. In the evening put neosporine or bactine on your pimples. In the morning use an oil free mosturizer (even if you are oily) it will keep bacteria out of your pores.

Drink a lot of water (add some lemmon). Also, if you eat salad add fresh parsley; it has natraul antibactrial agents and if eaten every day will help you a lot.

Don't scrub your face more than once per week it will aggrivate your skin and cause more breakouts.

Stop using drying agents they are only making the problem worse! We think because our skin is oily we don't have dry skin. When you first wash your face in the morning it may not be hydrated.

Hope this helps. I had the same problem for years, on certain days I hated leaving my house.

I tried a lot of different remedies and nothing worked so finally I went to a dermatologist who wrote me a prescription for dioxicycline. Maybe you should go to a dermatologist. They will know exactly what you need.

Try applying hydrogen peroxide 2-3 times per day on the affected areas. That worked for me in the past. It's cheap and very effective.

Don't expect results overnight though.

My favorite acne product has simply been Aveeno soap products and lotion in addition to a nightly exfoliant (Kiehl's pineapple papaya scrub) which helps to remove debris.

There are a couple of prescription products available if you really want to go that route. But if you have light to moderate acne OTC products are much better and cheaper.

Here is a list of popular OTC acne products:
