I don't know why, because they really should have told you you can't spell. Sometimes, people really shouldn't be so nice. Sometimes, it's more harmful than helpful. I wouldn't worry so much about your hair. You ought to be worrying about your english class more. However, I don't see why your Mom would have a problem with your hair, if it isn't causing you to not be able to see what you're writing.
