so i have two pitbulls one is a red nose of 2 years and the other is a blue of 1 year. my question is how do i get them to go after the springpole? when i have the knotted rope in my hand they will go after it like no other. they will jump and do everything in their power to grab a hold of it but when i put the knotted rope on the springpole they will lose interest. i have moved the the rope around while on the spring but they jump more on me than after the rope. anyone have any ideas????

p.s. i am not a dog fighter!!!!!!!!! and i truely hate when people assume that just because pitbull and springpole or tredmill are used in the same sentence that i am doing something illegal. i love the breed and a springpole is just a great activity to let them burn some energy just as wieght pulling. so spare me your assumptions.

Not too judgmental are you, people? Well, now that the ignorant have spoken... I can't wait for the weather to clear so I can put mine back out! I think you may want try to lower the rope while your dogs figure their new toy out. Not all dogs are going to be flyers their first time out. Do they have a favorite toy that you can tie to it? You can also try rubbing it with bacon or something like that or tying some on the rope to add an attractive scent. oh, try working them on a flirtpole first.

That's a good idea about rubbing bacon or anything with a strong scent on it... it will help, but when i had the problem you were having i talked to a dog trainer he told me to buy a new toy for him, tease him with it, don't push it in his face or hit him with it, it will do no good and he will have no interest, play keep away with it. get him interested then take the toy and put it away so he cant see it, do this for a few days, pull it out get him excited over it and put it away, let him tug on it in your hands for a bit, it wont hurt. finally attach it to your spring pole and hold it in your hand so he will tug on it, only let him do it for a few minutes or even seconds, then take it off and put it away, keep doing this, but every time you pull it out let your grip slide more and more each day until your hand isn't even on the toy just there so he thinks your holding it, every time he grabs the toy reward him with either praise or treats... over time the dog will go nuts over the spring pole. Pitbulls love to please there owners, never be negative, be patient and rewarding. REMEMBER: don't let the dog have the toy you use on the spring pole unless your using the spring pole, if he can have the toy at anytime he knows he can do what he wants when he wants... make him want it, then take it away...
Consistency and Patience are key to training your pup! Good Luck!

it sounds like your dogs are like mine(I have 2 pitbulls also) they are more interested in playing tug of war with me than to play by themselves, mine wont use a springpole at all. I dont have any ideas though sorry

they rather have interaction with you than an inanimate object that moves. If you are to lazy to actually play with the animals than no matter what anyone tells you, you are not going to do it. To get them to play with the spring pole you need to teach them. Unfortunately that take a lot of time. Since it does you might as well play with them yourself.

i hope you are not talking about training dogs for dogfighting! i hope you know that that is illegal and cruel for the dogs! not to mention disgusting. you are a foul excuse for a human being and i hope the police catch you soon.
