Seal Beach (just north of Huntington Beach) has fewer waves than most Orange County Beaches. If you want fewer waves because of the children in your group, they would also enjoy the (free) play structure at the beach. Seal Beach is safe; a police station is at the pier. The pier is a popular place to fish, by the way. If you'd like to stroll or grab lunch or a snack, then Seal Beach's cute little downtown area is just across from the beach. There are both parking lots and on-street parking at Seal Beach. From I-405, you'd take the Seal Beach Blvd exit and head several miles west to reach the shore.

Wow, I haven't lived in CA in over 20 years, but u used 2 be able 2 go to places like Huntington Beach or Newport Beach. They could get pretty crowded at times, but they were always nice places to swim.

Seal Beach, and Bolsa Chica are the safest with smaller waves. Further south and the waves are larger.
