Should He Be Rewarded?

Question

I know one of the men that pulled Saddam from his hole. He was the one that dicovered the hole first. The government turned down his request for the reward. Do you think he deserves it?

By the way the version you see on TV is totally wrong

There was a $50,000,000 on Saddam's head. I would like to see the unit split the reward. That's just me though. When I was in 'Nam, the starting pay was a whole $96 a month so I sort of feel for them.

At least give them a presidential citation

If he is a military man then no. It was his job to find Saddam and any other "bad guys". The reward was an incentive for civilians to help locate Saddam. It's like people who work for or are related to those that work for a state lottery being unable to collect on winning tickets... they CAN'T

That would be like a police officer calling in a tip to crimestoppers and then getting a reward.

No he should not get the reward. He had a duty to his country. His duties were to follow orders, a standing order was that if Saddam was discovered he was to be captured and turned in. The reward is for people who have a choice, turn in the tyrant or go on about your life as though you never saw him. Where as your friend had a duty. Had he spotted Saddam and went on with his life as though he hadn't he could be NJP'd for dirilection of duty or possibly even something more substantial. Had an Iraqi said "here, look, man in hole" then the Iraqi would have been able to receive the reward, but that was not the case.

The reward was established as an enticement, a soldier should need no such enticement to follow orders.

Someone is lying because NO soldier REQUESTS a reward for anything they do during their duty!

I mean, not only because it's not what a respectful service member does, but also because you just don't do that. It's not procedure and it's extremely in poor taste!

the U,S, had a reward on Saddam and it said anyone who gave information on his whereabouts or brought him in would receive the reward period, so yes this man should receive the reward and why not just because he is a member of our armed forces? but, our gov has always wanted to screw our own men in every instance they can, that is why they pay them this high salary to put their life on the line and lose their homes family's etc, because they can't give their family's the kind of support they need and deserve, patriotism hmmm this seems kind of one sided to me, where is the patriotism to our men who are fighting for our freedom, patriotism don't put food on the table,

So that guy got nothing? He's a US soldier, of _course_ he is going to be shafted by his own government, what did you expect?

Meanwhile, in Afghanistan, the US paid reward money to anyone who "turned in members of Al Qaeda". Most of those kidnapped by the US were foreigners disliked by the Afghans or victims of petty personal revenge and tribal warfare. The Afghans who turned them in did it for the money and out of vindictiveness.

Not one of the kidnappees tortured and held at the Guantanamo Bay Concentration Camp has yet to be charged with any crimes. _450_ of the 775 kidnappees however, have been released or will be released once a country is willing to give them refuge.

If there was a reward offered for the capture of Saaddaam,then yes! The ones who found him should definately get the reward!

No. He was, at the time, a soldier doing his duty. Law enforcement officers do not receive a posted reward when they apprehend a wanted criminal for the same reason.
But I thank that soldier and all the other service men and women that stand in harms way so I (we) can sleep safely in our beds at night. THANK YOU ONE AND ALL AND GOD BLESS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
