Well, contrary to popular belief, the French have had a long and distinguished military history, and one of their elite units would be the Chasseurs Alpins, or Alpine Chasers, of the 27th Brigade d'Infanterie de Montagne (27th Mountain Infantry Brigade). The first French Alpine troops were formed in 1859 in response to efforts to form a unified nation out of small kingdoms and independent republics in the Italian region.

When it comes to the British, the most famous regiments are, of course, the Special Air Service Regiment and the Royal Green Jackets. The SAS was formed in 1941 and is the role model for every special operations force around the world. They specialize in missions such as deep reconnaissance, target identification, indication, and destruction and denial. In their Counter Terrorism role, they are seen as one of the prime anti-terrorist, hostage rescue and target capture units in the world.

The Royal Green Jackets were a rifle regiment that had its lineage in the regiments of foot that were equipped with the first rifles. Traditionally, rifle regiments wore green tunics as an early form of camouflage, instead of the red coats worn by line infantry, hence the name. They were used primarily as marksmen and shock troops, and marched at a pace of 140 paces per minute (compared to 120 paces per minute for the standard infantry) to advance into battle quicker. The Green Jackets had a proud history, and won more Victoria Crosses (the British equivalent of the Medal of Honor) than any other regiment in the Army. The Royal Green Jackets were to be merged with the Devonshire and Dorset Light Infantry and Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Light Infantry by the end of 2007 to form a single large regiment to be called The Rifles, which would consist of 5 regular battalions and two Territorial Army battalions. The 1st Battalion Royal Green Jackets became 2nd Battalion, The Rifles, while the 2nd Battalion Royal Green Jackets became 4th Battalion, The Rifles this year.

I know that's a lot of information, but I hope it helped!
