I'm 17, weigh 154.5 and I am 5'8''. I used the harris benedict formula, and it says it says my BMR is 1800, i figured I do some moderate activity, and so I multiplied that by 1.55 and my calorie requirement a day is 2800. Isn't that too much. My goal is to have a sixpack ASAP. I don't really care how much I weigh as long as I look good.

I should emphasize that I don't care how much I weigh. I just want to lose fat. I fear eating too little will cause me to catabolize muscle.

That dont sound right. If you want to get a six pack i would decrease the calories to 1500 to 1600 a day. I find it hard that someone who weighs 154 pds can eat 2800 cal and lose weight. I would think that you would gain weight since there are over 3000 cal in a pound. think about it, within two days, you would of gained a pound or two if you ate that many because that is 5600 calories in two days! just cut down to 1500 and eat lean

Well they say if you want to lose weight, eat the number of calories that's 10 times your body weight (ie, you weigh 155 so you shouldn't eat more than 1500 or so a day) 2800 is an awful lot, even for a guy.

If you're after a 6-pack, I would recommend the book The Abs Diet, by David Zinkzenco or however you spell it. He's the editor of men's health, and it tells you exactly what you need to eat and what workouts to do to get a 6-pack in about 6 weeks. Good luck!

I think that 2800 calories a day is way too much. Try to get between 1500-2000 each day and keep working out to get that 6 pack! Don't eat your calories in things that are bad for you...most of the things you eat should be lean and low fat, like fruits, veggies, pasta, lean mean (fish, chicken, lean beef), low fat breads.
Also, I have found that a combination of different exercises is best to achieve your fitness goal. Running, swimming, biking, yoga, and kickboxing will help you get abs fast. Also, do a 20 minute ab routine each day (one that includes exercises like crunches, situps, supermans, ect.)

Of course you can, as long as you're burning more than 2800 a day. If you're active in sports 2800 isn't very much.

Have a tip from the yoga professionals and breathe... more oxygen within your cells means more fat is usually burned away. Breathing exercises for example those practiced in yoga are a fairly easy addition to your daily weight reduction regime.

I would think you need 2200cals. You're tall, you're a guy, you're a teen and you're doing moderate activity. Your metabolism is pretty high.
That's only my opinion, of course.
