In Scientology doctrine, Xenu (also Xemu) was the alien dictator of the "Galactic Confederacy" who, 75 million years ago, brought billions of aliens to Earth in DC-8-like spacecraft, stacked them around volcanoes and blew them up with hydrogen bombs. Their souls then clustered together and stuck to the bodies of the living, and continue to wreak chaos and havoc today.

Same way any religion does. Give them some hope and purpose.

Your question is asking how did Scientology come about. Remember that L. Ron Hubbard was a science fiction writer. That should make people wary to start with. But I have heard from a number of places that several science fiction writers were at a party and one of them bet Hubbard that he could not make up a plausible religion. I have heard this story enough to suspect there may be some truth in it and I have to say that Hubbard has lost the bet. Being a BAD science fiction writer what he came up with is not really plausible (even though some people believe it).

I hate people ripping on scientology. I am not a scientologist myself, but I am not naive enough to insult it.

Lets take a look at Christianity for example. A giant man created the Universe in 7 days out of his own might, he is everywhere, allknowing/etc.

What a crock of f/ucking s/hit

Considering that religion, as a whole, is not rational thought, but rationalized thought, it's not that tough to understand.

People, generally want to believe in something. While we consider stories about alien souls living in volcanoes to be ridiculous, its not more ridiculous than believing in an all-powerful being who spoke the world into existence, yet lives so far outside of the natural realm that he cannot be percieved by any type of natural means.

It's NOT rational! I see you already know about Xenu and the "Space Opera". Did you know that Scientology is not only ridiculous but also very dangerous? Check it out:

• Operation Snow White – Under this program, Scientology operatives committed infiltration, wiretapping, & theft of documents in government offices. This program constituted the single largest infiltration of the United States government in history. Among the 11 prominent Scientologists convicted of this conspiracy was Mary Sue Hubbard, the wife of Scientology’s “prophet”.

• Operation Freakout - Their campaign of sabotage & violence against Paulette Cooper, the writer who published her research & findings on several cults, including Scientology. Scientology’s official plan: to frame Paulette, ruin her career & reputation & get her either incarcerated or locked up in psychiatric confinement.
See the official plan: http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Krasel/cooper/frk1.html

• Fair Game - the Scientology policy detailing how the organization may confront & handle critics & perceived enemies. Here is a direct quote: "Enemies may be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed.”

• Violent Kidnapping - Lisa McPherson was a Scientologist, was involved in a car accident & resultantly became mentally unstable. She was kidnapped from the hospital by agents of Scientology, held against her will, refused proper psychiatric treatment & allowed to STARVE TO DEATH.

• Tragic Murder - A CBS “48 Hours” special on Jeremy Perkins, the mentally disturbed son of Scientologist parents who refused to put him on the anti-psychotic drugs that would have stabilized him & prevented him from killing his own mother.

Isn't it amazing what humans will believe in, especially considering the lack of common sense or evidence found within the beliefs in question?

Since when did it become rational?

Check my source for a video that explains how these things happen.

things like that come to rational thought because thats what people need! thats wut makes them at peace at what they do and who they are. If they believe that and think there is a little bit to support it then there is no reason to believe in a God and have to have morals or anything. They can live however they choose to live and not have to face going to Hell for doing it! :]]
