What is the reasoning for that being the time humankind needed him the least? There is the theory of God as a clockmaker, in which he set the world on a path and intervenes only when he must, trusting mankind to make their own way. It could be that He sees us as advanced enough in science and communication to take care of and protect ourselves from these problems. If you read the Bible, it suggests several signs of the Apocalypse or second coming of Christ, some of which have come to pass by some interpretations, but by no means all. I personally believe that God has a plan and already knows when He will come again.

Jesus has always been. He is one with his Father, God. No beginning or end. He was only born once to earth, so He could be a sacrifice in human form, while still being God, so that He was a perfect sacrifice for our sins. He took our place, so we won't have to go to hell, if we accept Him as our sacrifice for sins. He only had to be born to earth once, because if He had to be born a second time, that would be like saying His first sacrifice wasn't good enough. His purpose in being born as a man was to be a sacrifice for man- once for all- He is still alive & in heaven with His father. If you ask Him to be your saviour, He will send His holy spirit to live in your heart. He is still here to help us, it's just that not everyone has been saved from their sin. Sin is the reason we still have all the problems in the world. One day He will come back to earth, not born as a human again, but as He is now, to rule in the end times, before Satan & the unsaved are thrown into Hell forever. If people don't accept Him as saviour during their life time, or especially when He is here in person again in the end, that is what happens. This earth is actually not going to be around forever. We need to take care of it while we are here, but the Bible says God is creating a new heaven & a new earth for us.

How many times have you been born? We are only born ONCE from our mother's womb.
Christ went to prepare a place for us. This doesn't mean He is not here with us. If you believe, then Jesus resides in you.
If you understand the Bible at all, you would know the answer to your own question.
What is taking place all must take place. Nothing you nor I can do to change what is to take place. Just be ready to meet your Bridegroom, if you are born again. (Spirit not flesh)

No offense taken :)
He didn't come when humankind needed him the least. Look at all the things he accomplished when he was here on earth - drove out demons, healed the sick, fed thousands of people, etc. I think they needed him a lot back then too. Jesus is still here today, he's just not physically here, but his teachings and all of the important things we need to know to save our souls (which is more important than saving your body, because bodies die but souls are forever) are in the bible. Jesus' death on earth also provided us with a surefire way into heaven. we didn't have to slaughter animals anymore b/c jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. his love and sacrifice allows us to get into heaven so that even though life is getting worse here on earth, he ends up saving those who believe in him by letting them into heaven where they can have a happy eternal life.

well i'm no prophet of god... i don't know what exactly his plans are, but i can tell you my theory on it, based on faith, prayer, scripture study, and much discussion. before i do, let me just tell you that any one who is offended by this question needs to do some soul searching.... no one should be offended by anything... the sooner people learn that the happier they will be....
anyways.. all of the things that are going on in this world are leading to the end of the world, to when the Beast or the AntiChrist will be controlling the world and things will get bad.. very bad..... Christ will come back after the Beast has been here for a while... its kind of a last challenge for those who are still alive.
those are my beliefs on it.. i don't think you or anyone else has to believe it, but its okay if you do or don't. i don't think there is really one right answer or one right path to heaven. your heaven is what your heaven is. your hell is what your hell is. as a member of the church of latter day saints, we don't believe in a "hell" so to speak.. as far as in the fire and brimstone way. we believe there are 3 levels in the afterlife (after the return of Christ) the highest level is for those who have fulfilled certain requirements (which i'm not going to get into here)
the middle level is for all of the good people.. who did good things in life, who were not evil... christians, atheists, buddhist, everyone, and for latter day saints who didn't quite make it to the celestial
and the lowest level is for the evil people. the murderers, theives, rapists who have no remorse and have not repented and have not changed their ways.
those are my beliefs.... it will be interesting to hear the different answers you get...
its nice to see a good, thoughtful question and not just a bunch of lil teenage girls saying "my boyfriend talked to another girl" or "am i pregnant" like someone can tell if you are pregnant on answers... sigh. thanks for giving me something real to think about!

Well if your professor read the smallest bit of the Bible, he would know not to take the word 'save' literally. He meant save spiritually. And He doesnt need to come back again to do that bc He already died and went to hell for us. That way we dont have to. Tell your professor to not be ignorant and research at least 5 minutes before he tries to dissprove something or belittle it. I dont mean to sound harsh but come on... he has no right to be teaching that class when he hasnt researched in the least one of the most popular religions...

It only took being born once. His death on the cross is what saved us. In leaving us the Holy Spirit, He protects us now. The world will not end without God's knowledge or approval. It will end in His time.

So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation [Heb. 9:28].
Therefore today we can put it very simply: there is just one of two places for your sin—either your sin is on you, or it is on Christ. If you have not accepted the sacrifice of Christ, if you are not trusting Him as your redeemer, if He is no authority to you, then there is nothing ahead of you but the judgment of the Great White Throne. No one who appears there is going to be saved, but everyone will be given a fair chance to present their works and discover that God was right all along. And I have news for you: God is always right. So today if your sin is on you, there is nothing that can remove it but the death of Christ.
When Christ comes the next time it will be “without sin unto salvation”—that is, He will complete salvation at that time. Our salvation is in three tenses: I have been saved; I am being saved; I shall be saved. “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2). Now that is going to be a great day
Ro 8:34 Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.
Christ has removed all condemnation, and the believer is secure because of the fourfold work of Christ: (1) Christ died for us—He was delivered for our offenses; (2) Christ was raised from the dead, raised for our justification; (3) He is on the right hand of God. He is up there right now, my friend. He is the living Christ. Do you need Him? Why don’t you appeal to Him? (4) He maketh intercession for us. Did you pray for yourself this morning? You should have. But if you missed praying, He didn’t. He prayed for you. How wonderful! This fourfold work of Christ is the reason that nobody can lay anything to the charge of God’s elect.
Ro 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
He mentions everything imaginable here.
Is it possible that “tribulation” or trouble can separate us? No, my friend, because He won’t let it. “Distress or anguish?” Oh, you may think God has let you down, but He hasn’t. “Persecution”—and this means legal persecution. It means there are those who will carry on a campaign against you. But that will not separate you from the love of Christ. “Or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?” By the way, this is a brief biography of Paul’s life. He knows from experience that these will not separate you from Christ’s love.
