I rented a DVD and it kept on skipping, so I ripped it tom my hard drive to smooth over the rough spots,, and then deleted it upon returning the DVD. But just to be on the safe side, I don't want to get in any trouble. Can they tell if you've ripped it or not?

No they can not. The art of copying is like taking a picture of a DVD in a manner, impossible to find out. So do not worry about it. If you were to buy a movie and it was bad, then you got a rental and switched them, the rental would not find out. Trust me on that one. lol

No, not unless you mean you burnt it by putting a match to it. When you rip a DVD or CD it reads from your computer DVD Rom/RW no different than it would from your DVD player. There is no way for them to know unless you have told them.

Only way they can tell is if you give them the ripped copy instead of the original disk back. Don't laugh, friend of mine, his sister was using Netflix and send the burned disk back by mistake. They dropped her membership.
