Take a picture of you and your son, then cut you out of the picture leaving a hole and put it on the fridge as a reminder what could happen if you don't get your eating under control.

You can read more information on weight loss and exercise here that could help you too.

Its important that you do not starve yourself during the day, or eat meals below your required intake.

First i would advise that you measure your daily activity, and understand how much you need to eat each day inorder to function, then set yourself a schedual and adhere to it.

Next, you'll need to exercise, weight loss from starvation doesn't work well long term, as soon as your diet ceases the pounds will return. Exercise however, conditions the body to metabolise these calories, and has the added benefit of helping you lose the weight, and bettering your health.

Begin with running, long distances or short, just maintain a run for at least 30 minutes a day, make sure you are pushing yourself and sweating. Otherwise if you are very overweight, you may want to consider swimming, since it places alot less stress on your knee joints.

For best results, combine a controlled diet with an exercise regiment. Schedual yourself and plan your week, exercise at least 3 times a week, preferably, with 1 day to exercise, another to recover, followed by another day of exercise.

Its very important that you discipline yourself into following the program you set for yourself. All the planning in the world will do you no good unless you follow your plan. Additionally, once you achieve your targeted weight, you need to continue with the regiment and maintain that.

It's good that you realize that you need to lose weight. You have the motivation (your son!) and you obviously know what your problem is (eating at night). To stop the late night eating, you MUST go to sleep on time and force yourself to not get up. It will be tough at first, but after a week or so of tough self discipline, it won't even be an issue. Also, it's important what you eat in the day.
Eat 3 healthy meals and 2-3 snacks. For breakfast, try cereal with skim milk, oatmeal, egg whites and diet bread, low fat yogurt and fruit. For lunch, try a low calorie soup and reduced fat crackers, a sandwhich with low fat sliced turkey/ham or tuna on wheat bread, or a green leafy salad with fat free dressing. For supper, prepare meals that include lots of veggies, lean meats (like grilled fish, chicken, lean beef) and low fat breads.
Drink 6-8 glasses of water, 5 fruits/veggies, and 2 servings of lowfat dairy each day. Exercise for 30-60 minutes 5 times a week (playing with your son does count, as long as your up & about). Other easy exercising is taking brisk walks, riding bikes, and even just dancing.
Be sure & get 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night so that you have enough energy to work out and to avoid overeating.
Also, I lost 30 pounds on the Weight Watchers program. It teaches you how to eat healthy for life and provides you with emotional support. But if you dont like the idea of Weight Watchers, just do the best you can with the hints I gave you.
Best of luck!

I was like that. Couldn't stop eating and when I dieted, all I could think about was what I wasn't eating at that time. Then pigged out later.

It took me a while to realize that I had to believe that I could do it and what I was doing was working. Don't get me wrong, I know that is hard. "Believe you can do it and you will." Sure, something a thin person made up, but once you get your mind in the right place (easier said then done), then you will drop the weight.

I can't tell you exactly how to get your mind in the right place, for me, I just knew that this was my year to finally do it, for you, it might be something different. Be patient and you will find what it is.

Maybe your son can be your motivation. Take him for long walks and play with him, not only will it strengthen your bond with your son, but his energy will become your energy. Just a thought.

Well I'm not a therapist, but perhaps you are eating at nite due to a release from the stress of caring for your son during the day. And please check with your physician before starting an eating regimen and/or exercise program. I've been told to keep a log of what I eat each day and that way the person can actually see what they are consuming. Some recommend planning out their meal a day ahead as to set a boundary for themselves.

Generally a healthy eating plan consists of fruits, vegetables, complex carbohydrates including whole grains (must say 'whole' before wheat or grain or can just be fillers), lean protein such as skinless chicken that is baked or broiled and/or legumes. I attended this weight management program thru my local hospital which some insurances covered btw, and the instructor talked about 'mixed fuels' eating a carb along with a protein so that the glucose would be released into the bloodstream slower thus keeping one satiated for a longer period of time such as an apple with peanut butter or crackers and (low-fat) cream cheese.

How about consulting with a personal trainer to set you up with an exercise program that is within your fitness range, and perhaps you can keep it up at home. And they say to drink plenty of water before, during and after physical activity.

Do a cardio workout during the day because that helps burn fat. I would do a cardio workout three times a week and walk for ATLEAST 20 minutes two times a week. Also, the reason that most people eat at night is because they are bored. Find something to keep your hands busy. Sometimes I play the piano. If you want to watch tv or something, do a cross stitch or sketch something. Just find something you like doing that will keep your mind off eating. It might even help if you went to bed with everyone else.

before you start eating ..go to bed and sleep and the other day when u wake up u will feel much better because u have save the calories !!
but if u still find it's hard to stop u from getting near to the snacks..u can simply just lock all them up or stop buying them...the most direct way...
i hv tried to stop myself from eatting too much snacks
i know it's not the feeling of hungry but the feeling of wanting more
it's really hard to resist
every time before eating look at urself in the mirror and also wear tight clothes so to remind urself that u should stop eating!!
good luck to u*

see u have lots of web sites and answers like medications, lifestyle etc. everything comes down to one thing. will power and determination. if u get that getting down weight is not an issue after all. a more appropriate question would be how to develop will power.
after coming down 30 pounds, i think that the driving force that got me down was the above thing which i tried to cultivate(well, i am far away still). mind u, it is not a super human thing.
