If you can avoid being medicated, go for it. It is too easy to get a chemical fix for anything and everything. Go to a homeopathic and / or herbal shop and see what they might have to recommend along the line of soothing teas. You realize that caffeine from coffee, tea and colas is not good for maintaining your cool.

I also am a worrier. It has taken me a long time to deal with this so that it is under control. I found walking, long walks were good.

I know this is going to get me thumbs down, but I found turning to Islam was perfect for me and my stress. I know my life is up to me to handle, but somehow I found just relaxing and trusting things to Allah, while still taking action myself, somehow helped a lot. I really do not know why but it does.

Often if something bothers me or goes wrong, I put myself into a "what is the worst case scenario" mode. That somehow is a calming exercise. Worrying is just a terrible waste of energy. It is not going to change anything for the better and will leave you with ragged nails, not sleeping, and developing the various dis - eases associated with the nerves.

Don't you sometimes find that something you have sweated buckets over just works perfectly even though you visualized every possible disaster.

Another WONDERFUL way to slow down is yoga. A full yoga session is a good healthy work out but, the benefit for worriers is that you have to slow down and focus on your breath. That, believe it or not, is very relaxing.

hello David this is the first question i have tried to answer i am a 51 year old male i was like you and have been on pychiatric meds for over 20 years triavil and xanax i tried to get off the triavil once and did not sleep for 5 days i can get off the xanax sometimes and sometimes i can't. if you can talk to a friend about it it helps alot but then if the thoughts and worries seem to come back again and again maybe you have a real problem you are still young but whatever you do DON'T try to use street drugs to self medicate yourself it will only make things worse in the long run. maybe a few beers to relax is ok. going to church may help you the solution might be different from one person to another.it seems to really help in life to be lucky too.i hope everything will work out for you

try to relax sometimes. You probably have some type of anxiety, maybe just mild...we all get anxious every now and then. Its hard to stop worrying if you've done it all your life....I try everyday to stop, but I can't. The only thing I can think to do is just say "the hell with it, I'm not going to think about doing anything today. I'm going to sit and watch tv/read a book, and not worry about the world out there. Life keeps going even after we're gone, so why worry about today." Live each day like its your last. Enjoy!

You need to tell yourself that worrying about things you have no control over is wasted energy. What will happen will happen, whether you worry or not. You can't change some things and therefore worrying about it just takes a lot of crap out of you and gives you stress. When you find yourself thinking, get up and get on the fresh air or think about children in poor countries who don't know where their next meal comes from, now they have something to worry about. Brings everything into perspective, doesn't it? Take it easy and take one day at a time.

If you just think a lot and deeply you have a gift. Most people don't think much; they are "controlled by their emotions". Type "worrying problem" into Yahoo! search for links having sources of info on this.

Most people too worry but when worry becomes obsessive or causes lasting physical changes in your body, like fear, heart palpitations, headaches, sweating, nervousness etc. it becomes an anxiety attack Anxiety problems that persist can become a mental illness. If this is your problem type in "anxiety" in Yahoo!
search; a number of links with info will come up.

You need a therapist if your worry is extreme.or if you become chronically anxious. The family doctor can recommend a local therapist in this case.

I too worry and think a lot. I have been doing cognitive behaviour therapy to help with the unhealthy/ distorted thoughts and also taking an SSRI antidepressant to help with the obsessions and over analysing that I tend to do. Its also a good idea to look at developing coping strategies that distract your thoughts such as relaxation/ meditation or as simple as giving yourself a little talking to when you detect yourself getting run away with your thoughts (i.e. "this is a thought, I am at work at the moment and need to concentrate on what I am doing so I am going to put this thought aside and deal with it later"). This works for me. Its also good to have a little note book by your bed so that at night you can write down all your worrying thoughts and know that you can have a decent night's sleep because they are all written down and you can deal with them at a later time.

Helped me a lot. Might be worth seeing someone who can suggest a course of action for you such as a psychiatrist or psychologist.

As corny as this sounds... start a journal. I know in this fast paced, chaotic place we call life it's hard to find time for things. Some people think once you get whatever's got you worried out of you head, then you'll feel better. If that's not your thing, go see your doc & get his opinion. Hang in there.
