I was a cop long enough to tell you one thing, lies get exposed.
If it is a serious case, the lie will not stand up to scrutiny. Lawyers for all of their drawbacks are pretty good at deciphering the real deal. Doesn't mean a jury will always stand by the truth, but a lie just doesn't ring true. It is often the case that people make it worse for themselves by lying and covering up.
So, the answer for me is no way, it just ani't worth it and it ain't gonna work anyway.

If the lie will save his life than what he did is probably really bad. you have to think about what he did and who he did to and also how that person(s) life has been affected. Will perjuring yourself help him in the long run or is getting in trouble a pattern with him. Only you can decide the right answer but try to put yourself in the position of a victim whose assailant goes free because of a lie that was told and how it would make you feel if justice wasn't served. Having said that, I love my friends and would feel crappy about any decision that i made.

No, Absolutely not. If my lieing could "save his life" that means that me telling the truth gets justice for a victims family. If the only defense that he can come up with in order to prove he did not commit a crime is based on a lie that I am telling, how would I live with myself for getting him off. NOPE

I wouldn't even lie to save my brother's life. I don't care how convinced you may be that he is not guilty, he is your friend therefore you WANT to believe he is innocent or you would have to face the fact that you made a bad choice

If it was to save their life which I can't imagine how, I wouldn't lie because if someone did something that caused them to be up for death then they are no friend of mine. Would I lie to get a friend out of like theft charges, probably not, they committed the crime and they have to pay the consequences for their actions.

No.
If a close friend of mine KILLED somebody, and was facing capital punishment... meaning my friend intentionally planned and carried out a killing, then no, I would not lie to save that person from facing the consequences they chose.

Now, that said, I haven't been put to that test, yet. Perhaps I would cave. But I know myself. If I lied so that my friend would be off the hook for a murder he or she committed... my conscience would eat me alive. I wouldn't let myself live with that kind of guilt. I'd take myself out.

A true friend would not put you in that situation. A true friend would not ask you to compromise your integrity. Remember what happened to Scooter Libby when he lied under oath to try to keep himself out of trouble? See what kind of trouble that got him in?

Just remember that there are a lot of people out there that are smarter than you (and me too). And often times they can find out if you're lying. Sometimes they will ask you a question that they already know the answer to just to see if you'll tell the truth.

Lil' Kim went to jail for perjury. Martha Stewart went to jail for perjury. All the other people involved in her insider trading scandal received fines, no one else went to jail only Martha went to prison, for perjury not insider trading. What crime did your friend commit? It would have to be a very serious murder charge for it to warrant a death sentence. If you have to lie maybe your friend is guilty. Are you prepared to go to prison?

depends on what they did, and who it was, but i would have no problem lying in court, because lies are told all the time. alot of them are told by law enforcement officers. if everyone would take a couple of days, and sit thru some court proceedings, i think they would walkaway with a different point of view. its about as corrupt as it gets.

A real close friend I want to say no but I probably would, because
I love my friends I would do anything for them, so I 'm sure I'd take that chance.

Honestly, if you're in that position, your friend pretty much screwed himself and all you can do it the right thing. You'll have to decide that for yourself.

My advice, two wrongs don't make a right.
