My toddler figured out how to climb out of his crib a few nights ago. Since then, he climbs out atleast 8X everynight until he finally falls asleep. The other night, we woke up to him playing in the living room with his toys @ 3 in the morning. He climbed in bed with us this morning @ 5. I don't know what to do!!! His sleeping scheduelle is all messed up now & no one is getting enough sleep.

Yes, my son will be in a toddler bed in a couple nights, but I'm sure he will still be getting out of bed to play. Just wondering what everyone else does.) I tell him in a stern voice, "NO" & put him back into his crib, but he still gets out 2 min. later. I do not believe in spankings)

There's a crib net that you can buy that stops them from being able to climb out. You'd have to look for it yourself though, cause I don't know where to get one. Otherwise, I guess you'll just have to deal with it. Maybe if you put him in a big boy bed and told him big boys stay in bed, he may stay in his bed?

Maybe get a toddler bed for him or a regular bed and fall asleep with him. I don't know what to tell you but I know my son will be doing the same soon. I just ordered him a bed so he can start getting use to it before I switch him over. Good luck and I'm sure I will be asking this question in a few months. Wishing you all the best!

Sounds to me like he's ready for a toddler bed. My kids all did this to me and I thought I would go crazy! Once I got them the toddler bed, they didn't get up that often. When they know they can get out of the crib, they will keep doing it. Try out the toddler bed and teach him that this is where he sleeps now.

Good luck.

The toddler bed is smart, and he will learn eventually that that is the most comfy place to sleep. My daughter is 17 months and has been in a toddler bed since she was 14 months. I read to her every night til she falls asleep, so we don't have the getting up problem. I also have a handsfree gate that is up in front of her room, and that has also made it so she gets her own special time alone. She's taken to it all really well, so I wish you the same luck!!!

Sounds like he is ready for a toddler bed. I would be worried about him being up at night while you are sleeping. If he uses a night light, turn it off and close his door at night. Use a baby monitor to keep your ears on him so if he gets up in the middle of the night you will hear him.

Also make sure he is not napping too much during the day.

You have your hands full...good luck!

Your son is in definite need of a regular bed. No need for a crib anymore. Also why don't you put all the toys away in a toy box that can be locked at night. I would continue putting him to bed when he gets out and tell him "No it's bedtime, you need to stay in bed" but also if he does get out of bed there will be no toys for him to play with and he will get bored and realize evenutally that there is nothing for me to do when it's bedtime so I might as well sleep. Takes awhile but it will get the point across to him.

No one paid attention to your full comments. You are putting up a toddler bed! that's wise. You don't want a broken neck. The gate will only have him crying at the gate for you. Try giving him an earlier nap during the day so he's more tired at night.

i think it time to change to toddler bed.. because he can climb out of his crib... he is too old for the crib.. he should be out of crib when he knows how to climb out.. it time to change.. They do have the toddle bed that has the thing on the side to hold them so they do not fall off the bed at night...

A toddler bed and a sturdy baby gate. then if he gets up he can play in his room but cant get out to get into things or outdoors. I have known people to put a screen door on the childs door and lock it to keep the kid in. It is so dangerous for them to be up when you dont know.

you can get a crib tent if you plan on keeping him in a crib for a while. it worked wonders for our son, who would climb out of his crib, down stairs, over gates, and down MORE stairs to the basement... they may seem pricey if you are planning on moving him into a toddler bed soon, tho. and, if staying in bed is still an issue w/ a "big boy bed", there are tents for twin sized mattresses, also! i had one as a child, and loved it. we're looking into getting them for all 4 of our kiddos now.
