The Bible as we know it was first compiled and finalized by the bishops of the Catholic Church, gathered in council at Carthage, North Africa, in 397 AD. The 73 inspired books they defined as the Canon of Scripture are the Bible. Anything more or anything less is not the Bible. Every Christian on earth used the Bible as defined at Carthage for the next 1,200 years. It wasn't until the 16th Century that the founder of Protestantism decided to throw out 10 books of the Word of God, because they did not support his novel doctrinal ideas. Fortunately his followers rebelled against the idea of trashing the writings of the Apostles themselves, so the New Testament was left intact. But Luther did manage to trash 7 books of the Old Testament, which is why the Protestant Bible has only 66 books, not the full 73 of the original Bible. The complete and original Bible however is still used by the one true Church which defined the Canon of Scripture in the first place, the Holy Catholic Church, which is the only authorized and authoritative interpreter of its own writings.

So no bodys is really sure and the bible is a mixture of a lot of text and people's history. No one really knows except there's 6 miles of shelffs under the Vatican filled with ,scrolls papers and miles of history we have no idea what it says and never will . Plus twice as much are still lost or burnt. The King James Bible is a history book written in the 15 hundreds. I can remember what happened 2 years ago and we are lead to believe , whats in the Bible is all true?

The first Bible would be very new, it is a collection of essays and letters written over some 3500 years, but it was not put together as a Bible until the Cathilic Church accepted the Torah and the New Testament as the cannon. This would have been in the late Medieval period. Bibles were not commonly owned until well after America has established itself.

Some of the stories of the Bible where adopted from surrounding religions. The origins of the flood story, for example, come from Canaanite religions which predate the Bible. The god of the Old Testament is a composite of the gods of the Canaanite pantheon.

Complicated question. We have over 6,000 Greek copies of the original manuscripts. Our Bibles today, are translated from the original Hebrew and Greek. We are extremely sure of it's accuracy, and that's why the 'telephone' analogy does not hold up.
The first English translation of the Bible was completed by John Purvey in A.D. 1388.
