You really need to start drinking now in order to get your body in shape. The only exception to that rule would if you had started drinking a couple of weeks ago in order to get your body in shape for Mardi Gras in New Orleans and then you would simply have to maintain that baseline until St Paddies Day.
St Paddies Day in NYC is a blast do the pub crawls , I'm sure because your Irish you will be "adopted " many times in many places. Remember NYPD is really cool and they will give you a lot of latitude as long as you don't do something blatantly stupid that will harm you or others and then the latitude will disappear in a New York minute . Have a good time but keep your wits about you.

You will have a great time - St Patrick's Day is a big party in New York - See the parade and do a pub crawl - there are so many Irish pubs in New York - you can hit every neighborhood in Manhattan. And if you speak with a brogue, you probably won't have to buy too many of those drinks for yourself. You will be SO welcome. Have a great time and come back and celebrate with us again!

Aaaah! I am SO jealous! I'm an Irish native New Yorker, live in CA now... and you are going to have a BLAST! Make sure you go to the parade in the city (of course)... do a pub crawl and try to find all the "Blarney Stone" locations (there are several!)... and don't do what I did, which was getting arrested for peeing on a rock in Central Park (and I'm female - it was one of those TRULY embarrassing moments!) LOL... over 25 years ago, and I still laugh remembering it.

If you're From-Ireland Irish and not just from Irish ancestory, then you probably won't find the festivities in New York to be quite as exhilarating in New York as they are in Ireland. That's because St. Patrick's Day is da-bomb in Ireland, but in the U.S., we tend to not get as excited. But there will probably be a parade, and you will find fun things to do. Good luck :)

Yes, if you remember not to carry booze around outside especially near the parade and don't pee or puke in the streets. You will get busted for public drunkeness...there is NO latitude for public drinking -- maybe 20 years ago, but not now.

wouldn't you rather stop by Chicago and see that Green River running thru it? :-)
I mean, aren't all the Irish in Boston?
