I'm serious, I'm okay otherwise, but when I'm trying to study a complicated journal article or trying to figure out something difficult for work, my whole head starts throbbing like a bad headache, are there any relaxation techniques that you know of or how to prevent this from happening?

your head is hurting partly because you are not getting enough oxygen to your brain; breath properly; deep cleansing breaths
learn to breath thru your diaphragm and your nose;
get oxygen inside your blood and your head and your headaches will never bother you.

And don't concentrate, FOCUS. On one thing at a time.
learn how to study. Take a class on how to study. Every school has them
they are the most valuable class you will ever take.
good luck to you

Another common cause of headache besides eye strain is muscle tension in the neck which constricts the flow of blood and causes the blood pressure in the brain to increase and cause a headache.

Learn to be aware of your body and learn when you are beginning to get tense. Massage your neck, breath deeply and try to relax. This frequently helps.

Good luck

Advil

Edit: It would also probably be a good idea to get someone to rub your neck for you. Barring that, lying down with a hot towel on your head helps (it helps when I have a migraine).

Get your eyes checked. You may need glasses and the headache is coming from eye strain.
