Here're the seven frequent things I like to do to improve my life when everything seems to be going horribly. :) Thought I'd share them here!

1. Give yourself a huge smile. Psychologically, it's been proven that the act of smiling itself does bring about warm, happy feelings.
2. List down a bunch of five honest, positive characteristics about yourself and read through that list slowly, letting them really sink in to make yourself feel great.
3. List down a bunch of five honest, positive characteristics about other people who are dear to you, and give that list to them. Making their day will make yours!
4. This very day, give yourself one major indulgence - be it a nice splurge on something you've been eyeing, some sinful comfort food etc. Just once!
5. Your idea of cleaning out the room is a great idea, and I do it often, actually! Gives you a lovely sense of accomplishment when you're done.
6. Contact a long-time enemy of yours and patch things up with him/her. :D
7. Give your loved ones and family a huge hug and kiss, and tell them how much you adore them.

Hope you have fun doing these things, and that it 'improves your life', even just that little bit!

Exercise! Play a sport, take a 15-30 minute walk a few times a week, go to the gym...whatever feels right to you. Exercise will kick-start the "feel good" chemicals in your brain, has no risk of addiction, and has no side effects (as long as you can deal with sore muscles). It will be a habit that will benefit you for the REST OF YOUR LIFE. Maybe volunteer 1 time a week, month at a soup kitchen or something too?

One of the best things I found was to change the "inner chatter" that's always going on in our heads.

Make sure it's positive. Make sure you change it to something in line with your goals.

Somehow this makes a difference! I've done 5 totally different careers because I was so curious and interested. Cowboy, nuclear engineer, business owner, college teacher and computer systems engineer. With a positive outlook almost anything is possible. fyi, the reason for my handle is I missed being an astronaut by 1 point, honest.

It's certainly Not ridiculous! It shows that you are intelligent and have a certain level of maturity for your age. That is just terrific that you're looking for ways to improve upon yourself. Cleaning your room is a great start. Parents typically just love when their kids make sure that they're room is vacuumed, bed is made, bureau is cleaned and everything is organized ('a place for everything and everything in its place' :)

How about getting involved with some afterschool activities if you don't already. There is theatre, sports such as track and field, community service clubs, science club. Whatever your passion is, just go for it. And making social contacts, friends can be the icing on the cake when enjoying what you are doing. Volunteering or community service projects are a wonderful way to build self-confidence and increase one's self-esteem in addition to giving such a satisfying feeling -- getting back more than one gives.

And of course, keeping up with academics is crucial and even reading outside of the required school assignments to give a broad base of knowledge. Reading all kinds of books including informational/reference types of books is a great thing to do. Know about a vast array of subjects from chocolate to current events. It shows a level of intellect that you enjoy learning :)

Though street smarts as well as book smarts is good to have. Don't ask someone too many questions unless of course one believes that they are in a dangerous situation at home or such. Heaven forbid, and don't mean to alarm you, but if one should be held up by someone with a weapon, do Not go the second crime scene as the criminal can do what they want then and there, know what I mean. Also, Never leave your cup or glass unattended as someone can slip a 'roofie' otherwise known as the 'date rape' drug, rohypnol. Be aware of surroundings. Not good to smile at someone if you are afraid of them as can show fear.

Sorry to bombard you with all of this. I'm sure that you will do just fine and how awesome that you are looking to improve yourself! Your parents must be very proud!! Please take good care :)

P.S. Please do Not inhale any type of fume also known as inhalants or huffing. Huffing fumes from products such as glue, paint, gasoline, aerosol spray cans or whipped cream dispensers is not only deadly but can be severely disabling. And it can kill or mame after just One time! A friend has damage to her brain tissue and damage to bone marrow (the fatty inner lining of the bones) and has so many problems from inhalant use. Please stay away from such behaviors and keep positive friends who are into healthy ways of coping. And products used as inhalants are also very flammable and can ignite very easily. Take good care of yourself and stay healthy!
