My male is showing interest, but not much, I have other dogs, and
they seem to want to get into it also. Help, cause I would like to
breed them for my self to keep as pets. They are maltese.

Hi I have been a breeder of the chinese shar-pei for many years.
it can be a number of reasons why he hasnt mount the female, he could be too young, inexperienced, or she just might not be ready! the male will mount the female when she is ovulating, she will pretty much let him know by flagging him. Most bitches are mated 10-13 days after the beginning of proestrus with good results because sperm can survive for 7 days in the ***** and ova (eggs) are not ready to be fertilised until 3 days after
ovulation, so that matings after ovulation may be fertile. Obviously, repeated matings 24 - 48 hours apart increase the likelihood of conceptiont him know when the time is right.

If you have to ask on here...you should NOT be breeding! Has the b*tch and the male been checked for luxating patella and PRA in their eyes? Have they been temperament tested? Have they been shown in conformation? Have they been checked by breed experts for proper structure? Are they both at least 2 years old? Have you researched their pedigrees for any temperament or health issues? Is there a real reason they need to be bred other than just to add to your collection of animals? If you were a responsible breeder, you would know that responsible breeders do NOT keep more than one pup from a litter at a time as it is next to impossible to socialize, train, and house break both dogs. Please be a responsible, loving owner and spay and neuter your animals. We don't need more backyard breeders/animal hoarders in this world.

How old is the sire? If he's still young that's pretty normal. If he's a couple years old or older, then he might be low on testosterone. Take him to the vet when in doubt.
