I do not fear God. He is the Father of my spirit! Jesus is my Heavenly Brother, my confidant, My Redeemer, my Friend!
Only those who don't obey the commandments and do not know him, need fear him!

I see fearing God as respecting God. Like a child that is in fear of being punished by the authority if their father. Actually, I am not in fear of God. I love God because I am sure that he loves me and he loved me first. In the beginning of my walk with God I did fear him more, but the more I learn to trust him the more I just love him. I know that he has my best interest in mind more than anyone on Earth possibly could.

It is a reverent fear as in "feeling or showing profound respect or veneration." To fear the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Like the way you fear your earthly father. You respect him & recognize that he has your best interest at heart, & even though correction does not seem pleasurable at the time, it will bring about the peaceable fruit of righteousness in our lives. Why wouldn't you fear the one who created you & made you & loves you & knows the eternal outcome of your life? The one who will ALWAYS be the lover of your soul & will ALWAYS try to bring you to an understanding of how much he really does love you & eventually a knowledge of his plan of salvation so that you can spend eternity with Him? It's a reverent fear, a respect, that we honor Him knowing that He knows more than we do. That His thoughts & His ways are above our thoughts & our ways. That he knows how to solve our life's problems & WANTS TO. A surrendering to Him who loved us first. The Bible says in Matthew 10:28: "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." I fear the lord because I love Him. Not because I'm afraid of Him. I trust Him with my life, so I fear (reverence) him enough to follow His leading. I hope this helps you a little bit.

To know God is to fear God

There are TWO kinds of fear, and neither one is the same.
There is fear as in terror and then there is fear as in respect much as one who disobeys his or her dad, not terrified, but dreading the punishment due).

On the day Jesus returns - those who have not accepted Jesus will know fear because of all the slander and mockery of him and his followers. Their terror will be absolute because of uncertainty about what he will do. Followers of Christ who have not lived up to His Name, will be fearful in the respect area.., and those who never tried may even have terror in their hearts. Much like you will unless you change

I don't think they fear God so much as they respect Him and are somewhat in awe of Him. I am certainly not afraid of God. Maybe Christians are afraid of what God is capable of if they mess up too much.

I fear my Dad. He loves me.I love him.
A few months ago I rolled my eyes at my Mom,so he pushed me a couple feet back onto the ground. Now I don't roll my eyes in front of my mother, because I know if I do I will be stripped of all electronics and be slapped. Its awfully simple.

Well, if someone that "loves" you spends most of his time threatening you with horrible things, you'd fear him too. I would think Hell would be preferable, at last there would be nothing left to fear.

I think it's a fear of reverence. Understanding that God has authority, yet compassionate and loving. People should not mock our Creator, they should not anger God, because surely they will experience his wrath.
