I gave birth to a baby boy 6 months ago. My hair started falling when he was 3 months old until today. Some say once he is 6 months old my hair would stop falling but he is now 6 months and i am still losing hair. Please help.

I had this too and got really upset about it. I went to the doctor who did a quick examination of my head to make sure it was not alapecia (sp?) and that there were no patches of hair loss. (it was just a general thinning of the hair which was ok). It's apparently really normal to lose your hair after giving birth.

Hormones while you are pregnant mean that you lose less hair than normal at that time, then when you lose those hormones after birth, your body catches up and gets rid of all the old hair it has kept hold of - we normally lose 100 hairs or so a day. I was told that it happens more when there is a trauma to the body - like if you are ill or have a complication to the pregnancy. It also happens after an operation sometimes.

I was told by the doctor that there was nothing I could do, I just had to wait for the hair to get back to normal which it did within about 8 months . If you are still worried see the dr but it's quite normal.

My hair fell out like crazy after I had my son, having very fine hair anyway i was really worried about it. There is a special range of shampoos in boots for post-natal hair, which I used and found the made my hair feel much nicer, nothing stops the fall out process, your hair growth cycle gets stuck in continuosly growing while you are pregnant. it misses the shedding part of the cycle. You have 9 months worth of shedding to do which can take 9 months to do.
It will stop so don't fret.
Hope this helps

I had the same problem as you and it was devastating as I had and still have waist length auburn hair. My hair got so thin I really thought I was going to lose the lot. I was very run down from a dificult C Section and I was breast feeding.
My hair did stop falling out when my daughter was about 12 months old.
I suggest you just visit a health food store and get some vitamins to help your body recover from the birth and if you are feeding.
But don't worry it will stop and your hair will thicken up again when it's ready.

Different studies show different results. Totaled together research shows that it can take 6-12 months for the mother to stop loosing hair. Most of it is just extra hair that you did not loose during pregnancy. It is supposed to stop as suddenly as it started and grow back in time. My suggestion is that if you think it is going to fast or if it is coming out in large groups see a doctor. You can start with a regular doctor but he/she may refer you to a specialist. There are conflicting stories about vitamins and post partum hair loss but taking a daily vitamin regiment helps battle depression and other overwhelming feelings after birth. If you breastfeed you should consult your child's pediatrician about the safest vitamins.

i have had the same problem....twice! The only thing that you can do about it is to try to prevent more from breaking.. Make sure your still taking pre-natal vitamins. I also use pantene shampoo and conditioner for thinning/for fuller thicker hair.. it has helped alot, make sure you dont part your hair exactly in the middle. If its long i would recommended cutting some off to make it less heavy(weigh it down and look even thinner) or at least some layers..

This is called post partum alopecia. Remember it is normal to lose up to 100 hairs a day. This could last until around 8-12 months. If you are really concerned about thinning hair, see your stylist and ask about Nioxin products.

Hair loss affects both men and women. Here are some natural remedies that can help boost hair growth: https://tinyurl.im/aH7Ql While genetics plays a role, there are other factors, including: hormonal imbalances, an underactive thyroid gland, nutrient deficiencies and insufficient scalp circulation.

Happened to me as well, with all three kids. However just to rule out anything other than post partum alopecia, you need to see your Dr. All it will take is a simple blood test to ensure that your electrolytes and other markers are normal. Continue taking your post natal vitamins, ensure you have rest and a healthy diet ( especially if you are nursing). My physician told me to eat lots of eggs. Seemed to work. However have no fear. It will eventually stop falling out.

The hair loss is caused by hormonal changes from the pregnancy. If you are still nursing, that might affect your hair loss. Otherwise, ask your doctor.
