By law they have to make the Auction a Public Notice. Look at yourstate.com or gov and do some searching. Also I think it is law that items have to be put in print. I don't know what Print qualifies as these days, but that is the law. Public Auction means the Public has to be notified of it.

Ask at the impound yards, like Road One in San Diego. Read the newspapers. Do bear in mind that it would be a good idea to have a drug dog go through the car before you accept delivery. Otherwise, you might wind up taking the fall for somebody else's crime.

Well here in Texas, you can call the police department for when they will have their auctions. In San Antonio, they are put in the paper I know and also they have a regular auction schedule. But I forgot when. So call up and read the papers on auction dates. How little you can speed just depends on who is there.
So call your police department and look in the papers.
