We were new to the neighborhood and didnt want to "ruffle any feather" so we ordered one of those things that sends out a loud only dog hearing frequency that the dogs dont like only when they bark. We mounted it on our fence but pointed into their yard and after about a week, no more barking. It was like "bark away" or "bark nomore". Something like that. It was around $40. Great investment! Maybe you can talk the neighbors into pitching in.

Definately don't be rude about it, this could ruin the relationship you have with your neighbor. Go and tell them that you are concerned because you hear the dog barking constantly. Ask if anything's wrong or if there's anything you can help with (try to make it seem like it's not bothering you and you're just trying to be the good Samaritan). If that doesn't help, call the police. Honestly, there's got to be some reason why the dog doesn't shut up, if it's being abused you could be doing it a big favor. Good Luck!

You could try taping the dog barking and take the tape over when you and the other neighbors go and see them about the dog. Be nice about it, but point out that if their dog is very sad and lonely, she's unlikely to stop barking. You might suggest doggy daycare, or you might get together with some of the other neighbors and volunteer to visit the dog and take her for walks during the day. If the dog knows she's not been totally abandoned, perhaps she'll scale back the barking.

A direct approach is probably the best approach. You might be surprised how they respond if you just tell them, I have been wondering how to approach this, but I need to tell you that your dog barks quite a bit (maybe they don't know this if the dog is left out for long periods). I hate to be un-neighborly, but it is a bit disturbing at times (explain the times, like too early on Saturday morning, or in the evening when eating dinner or doing bills).

If they are reasonable people, they will respond in kind. If they are not so reasonable, I'm not sure you should care whether they hate you. There are noise ordinances in most places, and if necessary you always have the option of callng the police anonomously.

Good luck!

I had the same problem with a neighbor. They would put their puppy out on a chain attached to their front porch for hours, and it would yelp all the time. This puppy had a high pitched yelp, and most of the neighbors were complaining about it. I don't know about your county, but I called out city hall to find out what I could do, and they forwarded me to animal control. In my state, it is illegal to leave a dog chained up outside without proper food, water, and shelter, even for a little while. I know this may not be the best approach, but this way you can remain anonymous and help the dog, too. Remember, it's the owner's fault, not the pet.

Just tell them that it's annoying you, in a polite way. This is a common problem and I heard on the news that some states will be adopting a law that will penalize people whose dogs bark for prolong periods of time. It's not fair to the neighbors, and it's not good for the dogs. It means that they're not being cared for properly.

You've gotten some pretty good suggestions, but maybe say something like "Hey there, I've was wondering if you've noticed the barking problem? My old dog/current dog(s) used to do that but we tried x, y, and z and this is what helped." They probably know about it, but might not know what to do. The Tri-Tronics XS Bark Limiter works very well and is one of the highest rated bark collars on the market.

Next time you talk to them, ask how their dog's going, then once you're talking about the dog, mention that the dog seems to have a voice on it. If they do get angry, just say that you were concerned that the dog had anxiety issues or something like that. Or, you could say something like "Oh, I heard that [insert amusing dog toy here] are great for keeping dogs happy and distracted!"
But it is a hard topic, cos no one likes to be told that their dog is a terror.
Otherwise, you could just leave them an anonymous note telling them to get a handle on it
Hope that helps

Call the police, tell them you have a noise complaint regarding the dog, and that it is an ongoing problem. You can also tell hem you wish to remain anonymous. After enough complaints to the same dog, the owner will eventually get a simple fine and will be forced with coming up with a solution.
