the band director at my school is bad. she yells at students, takes points off of their daily grades everytime they make a mistake, and she tries to break down their self esteem. she told me that the band sounds much better without me because i screw everything up. she has come to the point where she has almost hit a student. she has a really hot temper. can i report her or no? she doesnt do a good job teaching, anyways. she sits there, watches us play and stops us and tells us to restart whenever she hears someone play a wrong note.

As a former teacher I hate to see one reported, however, yes it can be done.

You need to file a formal petition with the school board with specific times, dates, and detailed information of the incidents. What was said and done by the teacher and the involved student. Each student named should also present a detailed statement as to what took place and when. Everything should be neat and well written. you must have each students name on their information.

When you have all the information gathered together, attend the next school board meeting and at the proper time present your petition. Be prepared to answer any questions the school board members have and be extremely polite towards them.

If you have at least five or six different students petitions and from different classes the school board will check out your information.
Also know if this teacher is "tenured" it will be extremely difficult for the school board to dismiss the teacher without very good grounds of misconduct.

There are some bad teachers out there and some that are good teachers but are going through some rough times in their personal lives such as divorce or sever illness in the immediate family.

If you have all your facts straight and organized you may do some good. If not, don't waste the school boards time they will not appreciate it.

Yes, you can report her. The best thing to do would be to get a group of band students together and go to the principal to report her. If she has almost his a student it will only be time before she does actually do it. I was in band in high school and our band director was really bad too. He would make the whole band run laps around the football field backwards if a section messed up and we did not know who it was. He once made a girl write a 500 word essay on why she was a bad person and that student attempted suicide over that. So even though things may not seem too too bad (not that I am say that they are not bad because they are) if they are not dealt with now they can really get out of control.

Report her to who? the Principal? your parents? I would tell your mom about how abusive and demeaning she is to you-- your mom would then have two options- speak to the school board at an open session meeting, or go speak with the principal. Speaking with the principal will most likely be a "wash" it's a protect eachother at all costs type of group so she will get nowhere and your teacher will find out and take it out on you even more. Going to the school board is your best bet because they will listen, and if there are any other students in your class that are being abused, have them tell their mothers and have them go with your mom to the board--- safety in numbers- believability is higher with numbers......good luck to you.....and if that gets nowhere the next time she mouths off to you and states that the band sounds better without you because you screw up -- tell her off, but not too abusively, just enough to get sent to the principals office-- then he will be forced to investigate the incident and deal with it............good luck to you.........

If you are a minor I highly recommend that you let your parents in on this and they will be able to handle the matter appropriately, if you are an adult than I would make an appointment with the dean of the school. Also there is a site called "ratemyprofessor.com" that way you can do research on all instructors prior to registering for their class. That behavior is unacceptable especially in that field!

Absolutely. If a teacher truly is going over the line it is something that should be brought up with the administration. Begin documenting, keep a log of dates she steps over the line and what she did. Be as detailed as possible. If the principle doesn't do something about it escalate it. The more people who are having the same troubles and who do this the better.

Sounds kind of "iffy". One thing you said should be reported - "almost hitting a student". Definitely tell someone in administration at your school.

The other things I'm not so sure about. Perhaps in your talk with the school people, you could bring these up and see what they say. Frankly, she sounds like a b****. Keep Your Chin Up...

You absolutely should go to your principals office and set up a time to go and talk to him or her, explain your feelings, and if necessary, have ur rents come with you or call and talk to your principal. No one deserves to be talked down to like that. but when you go, make real sure you have a better description of the problem then "she's mean" or "she just doesnt like me" because they will look at that as a whiny little kid trying to get their way. check out this site too: http://ratemyteachers.com
Good Luck

Yes, you can report her but, have a few friends go with you. tell the principal. He should speak to her. If she doesn't change, ask her yourself if she has a problem with you. and tell this answer to the principal.
