I feel everything is contradictory because some people (or websites) say that it is required to show a copy of the ticket flight or anything like that, others say that it is not, and other websites definitely don't say anything. I checked the Chinese embassy webpage and it says nothing about it, it doesn't even mention it.
So, what's going on? is it required yes or not? If you have travelled to China as a tourist or you work at the Chinese embassy please answer my question. Thank u

Absolute foolishness! No wonder why you are perplexed..
No you do not need to show proof of your return ticket unless you are doing a short term study abroad program or give them some reason to doubt your true intentions.

Al that is required if you are travelling for touring is Q1 visa application form, 2x2 photo, and your original passport..

I've been operating tours in China for 7 years..

I travelled to China last december with some friends from my university, and to get a Visa we had to submitt the following, mailed to the Chinese consulate:

-invitation letter from an agent in China;
-Visa application form completed;
-Your passport;
-2 passport photos;
-and a proof that we would be returning home, which I dont think can be proven unless with a return ticket.

Hope this helps. Fascinating place to visit.

Yep that is right. China is VERY strict when it comes to immigration.

Dont rely on websites - contact the Chinese embassy for details. And speak to travel agents and other people who may have travelled there. Find out all u can before u go.

I crossed over from Macau to China for just one day and they required us to pay for visas, and wanted to check passports. My two friends, both filipino nationals, were requested to not only show passports but also that they were returning back to Macau.

With police officers for immigration officials - they dont mess about with you at immigration. If you go anywhere in China or the Territories - Macau/Hong Kong - carry your passport and copy of your details with you.

If you screw up there, you may never come home....
