It is his birthday. I want to get him something he'll enjoy.

If it's a gift, give him a bottle of Opus One. It's a fantastic wine and around that price range. Plus, the it has a good amount of "name recognition prestige" beyond its quality...sort of like Cristal or Dom has with Champagne.

Stag's Leap and Duckhorn are some others with very good tasting higher end reds...both their Cabernets and Merlots.

There are a lot of great wines in that price range. Without knowing his tastes it's a bit of a guess but here are some.
Silver Oak Napa
Joseph Phelps - Insignia
Caymus
Dominus
Cakebread Cabernet
B V - George de Latour Cabernet
Silvio Grassi Amarone
IL Poggione Brunello di Montalcino
D'arenberg "The Dead Arm" shiraz
Quilceda Creek Cabernet
Beaucastel Chateauneuf du pape
Chateau Calon Segur bordeaux

These are just some examples and some of these may be hard to find. If you have a good wine shop in your area just ask them to recommend something in your price range.

$80-120 wine believe it or not is a rather expensive wine. Usually you can get a really good bottle for30-50. Do you even know if he likes red? White? or blush? if you get him red be sure to get it for him and give it to him a day or two in advance. Red has to have time to breath after you open it. Blush and white can be chilled. red and some deeper blushes are served room temp. Reds are sweet. Whites are tart. and blushes range in between. a good red would be chardonnay. white would be zinfadel and you can find blush in almost any flavor. You would do best to go to a shop that specializes in wine and have them help. Feel your boss out for his taste also. You get the wrong type and its almost as bad as getting him a really bad sweater or tie because he wont enjoy it.

Look in the Vintage section for the really expensive wines.
One of my favorites (retail-$50) is an Italian wine named Amaroni. It's great with food, especially red meats. It's a full-bodied wine and it'll knock your socks off. He won't be disappointed.

Get a bottle of Amarone if you want to be safe, but if you want to impress, get a nice bottle of Rioja...in that price range a Rioja will be good to crack open right away or lay down for twenty years

Its cheaper than what you want and you may not be on these kind of terms with your boss, but... my dad bought this for his boss a while ago: http://www.fatbastardwine.com/index2.htm

If you buy a set they call it the "Complete Bastard"

Its at least a funny story. =P
