A delicacy, anything sweet which means confection. I always ask for chocolate, I find if you ask for Candy most people think of things other than chocolate.
Candy is sugar- out and out.

Australians don't usually call it candy so for us it is either lollies or chocolate to choose from.

I would say chocolate is actually a food rather than candy which is usually a hard form of sugar (m&ms are covered in candy). They add sugar to make chocolate sweet. Don't forget the first use of cocoa was as a bitter drink by the Aztecs thought to be an aphrodisiac and as valuable as gold.

Sugar was added some time around 1900, but before that it was combined with chilli.

If eaten in bar form or in bagged candy(M&Ms) yes, chocolate is candy. But I have had it as a dessert in fondu(dipped strawberries) I have had it for breakfast(chocolate chipped pancakes). I have had it in alcohol and non alcohol drinks(Baileys, chocolate milk). Plus, its a great aroma for potpourri! Whatever you use it for, Chocolate is GREAT!

Well, if you look in the candy section of any grocery store, chocolate will dominate, so I believe so.

some types are, chocolate induces happy endorphines. That is why when someone is depressed or even just getting tired it gives you a pick me up in a good way that you dont really understand. ie a cup of hot chocolate on a cold wintery night.
