one word.....power... people in the church are always looking for power and by saying that they have the will of God at mind, they start to gain a following, then with time they split from thier original church, create a new sect whenin they have the absolute power. It started with the great schizm between the orthodox east and roman west. The roman west felt that the pope was the albeit power in the church and the orthodox felt they were wrong. So in the end they ex-communicated each other and the pope now holds the absolute power over the roman church that he wanted. hope this answers your question.

Because we are human and as humans, in different stages of maturity in Christ, we do not always understand what God wants from us. And some people who are Christians, do not always let God's Spirit guide them.
If this was a perfect world, there would be no division. Even in Bible times, Christians had conflicts.
Many times we focus on our wants rather than on the person of Jesus. Many times we focus on religion rather than a personal relationship with Jesus. This is why Jesus told us to be united in Him.

Because they don't know the Bible, the Word of God. They think the Holy Spirit is just some feeling they get and don't stop and think for a minute that THE HOLY SPIRIT WROTE THE BIBLE!!! If you want to hear God's voice you have to know Him, as Jesus said "My sheep will know my voice." (John 10:27). You become one of His sheep by the Word of God since "Faith comes by hearing the Word of God." (Romans 10:17) and "It is by grace you are saved, through faith." (Ephesians 2:8).
To know the Holy Spirit's voice you need the Word of God. The Holy Spirit will speak to you through the Bible and conform your will to God's. Furthermore, you have to lay down your own human ideas/traditions/desires/conventions and embrace the truth of the Scriptures. Many denominations insert into their doctrine their own traditions which either have no basis in or contradict scripture (such as prohibiting musical insturments, praying to "saints" or the Virgin Mary, handling snakes, etc; ). Each of these practices can be directly and plainly contradicted with a verse from the Bible. (Psalm 150, among others, for musical insturments) ; (1 Timothy 2:5 for praying to "saints" or Mary) ; (Matthew 4:5-7 for snake handling).
Claiming human ideas are from God is breaking one of the 10 commandments, it is making God in your own image. Motivations for this vary, but it is usually either selfishness or ignorance. People of all ages, origins, and denominations do this, often because they mistake their own feelings for conviction, not knowing the Word. But we don't have to. Simply by returning to the foundation of Scripture and building on it instead of re-making it, the church can unite itself together once again to do the work of God as ONE body of Christ.

Because some are not listening, they only claim to be for profit.
Others don't understand what they're being told becuase they don't have enough information.
And still others only hear what they want to hear from the Holy Spirit, not his whole message.
Very few actually hear, understand, and obey the Holy Ghost's promptings. Therefore, many are called, but few are chosen.

I have a very very very common sense question to ask about this matter.
If we could come to conclusions about God through the Holy Spirit, then why do we need the Bible?
Cant we all just listen to our hearts???
:)
And ofcourse, thats why there are so many church divisions, theyre all listening to what their hearts are saying.
The only problem, sometimes you cant tell your ego from your heart.

Well the Holy Spirit is the Archangel Gabriel, and the Christians have done the blasphemy by denying the message he brought to the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him.
It is Satan that is tempting them to be led astray, I seek refuge in God for Satan the Outcast.
Peace Be With You
