The past couple weeks my husbands lips have been swelling. Everytime this has happened, he has not eaten/consumed anything in common. Tonight they are worse than any other time. Does anyone have any ideas to what it could be?

Yes, there's a condition where infection travels to the lips.
Can't think of what it's called off-hand but here's a site that might
help some:

Are they itching, painful, dry, cracking? I find the most common cause of swollen lips to be an allergic reaction-- though it seems you have been keeping tabs on this. Spicy foods can often cause swelling-- the main ingredient, capcascin, is used in contemporary lip treatments to create "flushed" lips. Has the weather changed in the past few weeks? Often dry, cold weather will irritate my lips. My best advice-- pretty much a great lip protector-- is carmex, found at any local drug store.

This can sometimes happen with red dyes in food and also with sodium benzoate as a preservative. The latter can be in anything from soft drinks to chinese sauces to wine, margaritas etc.

There is probably something in common to cause this allergy and it's probably some esoteric dye or ingredient that transcends different kinds of foods or products.

My experience says that the doctor can give symtomatic treatment, but you and he probably have to be the detectives. Best wishes in finding the offending substance.

It sounds like he has a contact dermatitis which is where he is coming into contact with something his body doesn't like. When you say he hasn't eaten or consumed anything different, have you thought about toothpaste. That is the number one cause of this type of dermatitis. Also, anything he is doing different could account for this. New chap stick, you wearing new lipstick and kissing him. He is going to have to keep a diary of what he is doing and that way he will find the culprit for this annoying problem.

It could be a disease called angio-oedema......swelling may last for minutes, hours and, in some extreme cases, even over a day. Also.... Does he have any allergies?? OR, is there anyone in his close family with allergies??? It is very possible that he inherited it from someone… Anyways, he should have allergy test to determine what he may be allergic to. In meantime, he can try to minimize effects using Loratidine, Chlorpheniramine or similar.

He sounds as if he is having an allergic reaction to something. Please get him to go to the doctors as soon as possible. He will probably need to see an allergy specialist and have some tests done.

Please get this taken care of as soon as possible, he may end up having a severe allergic reaction and breathing difficulties if he does not get this taken care of. He may just need an antihistamine shot to take care of the problem Good luck and have a good night.

it is possible that your husband is ingesting something that is causing the lip swelling. have him try Benedryl, as directed, for a few days. if he has no relief, have him follow up with his doctor. he can keep a food diary which will contain info about what foods and drinks he ingests and the reaction to each.

Hmmmm... sounds very suspicious. Are you sure 100% of his sexual orientation. I mean when I..you know.. on my bf, my lips is swollen like crazy! Good luck with that. No for real tho, I don't have a clue. It could be he is having trouble draining fluid..lymphatic system maybe.

Angioedema is an uncommon allergic reaction and can be extremely serious. He needs to see an allergist ASAP.
