A guy buys something in a store, comes to the cashing-desk and says "bag it".

The cashier says "big time!" and they both laugh.

I'm not a native speaker - so what's so funny about it?

The only thing I can think of is that the cashier interpreted his remark as "buggered", which in England means really tired. The cashier replied "big time" inferring that, yes... he was really tired. It's a stretch but it's the best I can do!

I dont think there is cause there is nothing threatening about it but maybe there was a joke between the two of them about it.
Just a wild guess tho.

Maybe the cashier is hot and he thought you were saying "bag it?" as a question, and his answer was... "big time"...meaning, yes!!
