I am always a little embarrassed when someone asks me what I want as a gift. Your friend may have the same problem, so asking for a square balloon may just be his way of telling you he either doesn't want anything or doesn't know what to ask for and just wants you to surprise him. If you are creative, you could draw or paint a square balloon or cut one out of plastic fabric, etc.

Your friend sounds very philisophical! A square balloon . . . a request that seems as if he realizes that many dreams and wants cannot be fufilled in the material waking world.
In other words, any way you try to make this request a reality should be met with laughter and happiness in the knowledge that he has such a good friend!
Happy hunting!
