I have only been playing with marijuana for about 3 months now. Iam 54 and was curious as why people do it. But, the other night I did smoke some and about 20 mintues afterwards I broke out in wilts and my hands turned bright red and swelling. I had welts on my chest, arms, and legs. My hands and feet itched something horriable. I was not having any trouble breathing, but, I was starting to have a wheez. I had some benadryl here and I took a total of 75mg. About an hour later it was all gone. I want to try it again, but, Iam afraid too. What do you think I should do. I dont understand why I would have a reaction now after 3 months. I would of thought that If a person was allergic to something it would show up right away.

Each one of you are right. It was stupid for me to even change my morals to see why everyone else is doing it. But, I am just as human as the rest. And, I do regret that I even tried it. None the less if someone else reads this and it stop them from even trying, I did some good.

Good sign to stop now. You were lucky this once. Don't push your luck.

First you need exposure to the substance. Your immune system starts trying to figure out what is going on and makes antibodies. Then in subsequent exposures the antibodies kick in fast and hard- this can happen so fast that you are dead in10-20 minutes.
You have no idea where this stuff is coming from; it is grown illegally and there is no quality control. It may be the plant itself, or it may be a fertilizer or pesticide on the weed that is making you ill.
If you diplayed a reaction that took 75 mg of diphenhydramine to control your next exposure to the substance is going to be a doozy.
You would be a moron to try it again. Aren't you old enough to know better?

sounds like an allergic reaction. You can develope a reaction to a substance once it has been introduced to your body for the 1st time. A bit of cortisone cream and an antihistimine may help. Fortunately for you this is an allergy that can be easily avoided unlike things such as EGGS, peanuts and 9 million plants out there.

Good luck

Its totally up to you if u want to smoke it but im not for it. I dont know much about the stuff, but if it was from somewhere different than where u usually get it, it may have something do with how it was grown. Either stick with a reliable source whos weed you know does not react with you or stop smoking the stuff so u dont risk something going really wrong

That's an allergic reaction. I don't smoke the stuff, but whenever I'm around the smoke, I have a reaction also. Anyway, if you're allergic, don't mess with it. Next time the reaction may be worse.

Well I am very sure at your age this never occurred to you, but perhaps the pot was dusted with something else. Sometimes the sellers will add a "little kick" to pot that is not of a high grade and you see what the results are. I would strongly suggest that you not do this again, or if you do, you better know who you are buying it from and where they got it.

my ex-boyfriend was allergic to pot. he used to be a pothead then one day he after smoking he couldn't breath. I and my friends have had certain kinds of weed that we don't like because it gives us a weird effect, but they were different for all of us. it just depends on the person, next time make sure you smoke different stuff and only a little bit to start

why at 54 are messing w/ pot? reactions don't always show up right away there are different types of marijuana and sometimes a combination of something you ate and smoking who knows ?consider it a life lesson and leave it alone before you have a more severe reaction and your too high to take care of it.sorry bud is not for you!!

i actually had a friend that was allergic to marijuana... he had an alergic reaction and had to be rushed to the ER. this wasnt the first time he had smoked it, either. I am allergic to dogs and cats, and i only have problems every once in a while. sometimes i am okay, other times my allergies act up something TERRIBLE!

At least you know your allergic to it and can avoid it.
You have tried it, so why do it some more, the next time the reaction may not be so easily cured.

an allergic reaction shows up after the first introduction of something to the body. in your case, that would be MJ. using Benedryl was a wise decision. using MJ again would not be so wise.
