I've been looking at craigs list, rent.com, and a couple others. I like ones with pictures so I can see if the apartment is right for me.

Craigslist is the best by far. However, I will tell you, it will be almost impossible to rent something before you get here. I have a Master's degree, impeccable employment, rental and financial histories, and even after searching online for 6 weeks couldn't find anyone willing to rent to me without seeing me in person first.
You should plan on staying in a Motel 6 for a few days while you look. Once I got here, I found a place in 4 days, and I even have 2 pets.

Craig's List is the best online, however you are better off driving around neighborhoods that you like and looking for "For Rent" signs, as most properties are not listed.

craigslist with pics is about the best, but the L.A. Times on line has a free thing you can sign up for.....you might try that...

then my manager told me all they really do is repost
