My personal experience is that a few drinks or slight buzz, not much will happen. Excessive drinking when your on a psychiatric med will make your heart race more. But every person has different reactions to, so maybe start small.

I would discuss this with the doctor who is prescribing the medication. He/she is the best person to know how much alcohol , if any will go with psychiatric medications. There are so many kinds for so many different reasons that there is no all inclusive answer. Too much of anything is dangerous, so if you do drink keep it to one drink and if you feel any strange sensations then stop the alcohol totally. There are far better ways to handle the pain and lonliness of a psychiatric condition than using alcohol or drugs. I can attest to this first hand.

This really depends on the type of medication that is being taken. Obviously it is something that should be avoided, although I drink some from time to time.

With me I notice that my tolerance is way down, or at least I feel the effects much more quickly than when I am not medicated. I've never noticed anything really "bad" happen, but then I don't drink that often or heavily either.

Sometimes it affects the effectiveness of the medications so if you drink all of the time, obviously your meds will be less effective. This can have serious repercussions on your quality of life, depending on why you take the medications in the first place. I occasionally drink moderately and I take psychaitric meds, but the reason I don't feel any ill effectis is because i drink Occasionally and Moderately. I need to add that I am not supposed to drink at all.

Most psychiatric meds are anti-depressents or uppers. Alcohol is a depressent or a downer. Thus, they don't mix, because they take you down from the point you should be at, and sometimes even lower.
