Anyone have experience with panosteitis or enostosis? Wondering if this is the lameness culprit? Diarrhea could be caused to vaccs - using same food as breeder - also using same vet - treating symptoms right now and trying to narrow down problem - seems to eat ok and playful

I do not think that it sounds like parvo, but it may be distemper. It could also be some type of genetic problem. If the dog has pinched nerves in the back it can cause problems with gastric motility, which causes diarrhea or constipation. Also, it could be some type of reaction to the vaccinations.

One of my dogs had a pinched nerve and a slipped disc in her back, and she would just be walking along and her back legs would go numb and she would fall. She would also have a lot of problems with diarrhea, which the vet said was due to gastric motility problems. She could not take any anti-inflammatories, so I could only give her supplements. I did take her to the vet for acupuncture once a month and it bought her more quality time, but it did not fix the problem.

Some animals have bad reactions to vaccinations. My cat had seizures after vaccinations as a kitten. After the second round he became lame as if his back end was paralyzed. He completely recovered, but it was a scary few days.

We changed vets. That vet said it was better for him to have seizures than to catch the diseases he could catch if he didn't get the vaccines. I disagree. Today most veterinarians are going to much less frequent vaccine schedules because it isn't necessary to vaccinate so often. My cat, however, will never have vaccinations again.

My other pets do get vaccinations every 3 years. They have no visible bad side effects.

You'll need to see your vet ASAP to check this problem out. Sounds very serious.

Sounds an awful like the beginnings of Parvo -which is deadly to pups. I would take him to a different vet immediately! Parvo is so aggressive that it could literally be a matter of hours before death.

my basset hound toxed out for no reason at 8 weeks old, she bloated up, coughed non stop for weeks and barely moved
her problem was kidney infection and pancreatitis
my best guess is the vaccine reaction someone mentioned earlier
but pancreatitis can cause both the things you listed, so it might be worth a go over

good luck, dont lose hope

ask the breeder what she use to feed her puppies. sometimes if you change a dogs diet they can get diarrhea and bassets tend to have problems with there legs more their hind legs. but I'm not exactly sure so just keep an eye on the little guy

Make sure the vet has checked your puppy for Parvo.

My dog was doing this and it had lukimia. This is also caraterized by bloody stools but that does not always happen right away.
