I think it falls into the greed category. If god did place us in our environment, he expects us to take care of it, not take advantage of it. Not to waste paper towels, not to drive army vehicles to pick up our children from school, not to regard it as something that you simply don't care about. I don't think you are a good peron until you respect and understand the importance of not abusing your surroundings, particularly the surroundings which keep you alive, your environment.

I don't know if I would go as far as labeling it a sin, because there may be some very good reasons to use those same items. But I think you have a great point. God does want us to take care of the resources. If God is placing this burden in your heart to take care of the environment, and I believe that when we are concerned about something that is a good cause that comes from God. So, if you follow this, you are following what God wants you to do. While being a good environmentalist won't get you to heaven, I believe that God will be very pleased with the effort.

This is all about the Mother Earth religion. If you worship Mother Earth then you need to take care of her.

Read the Bible! Oops, I forgot it is all a myth. But anyway, it says God gave us these things, including animals to use as we see fit. Nothing more and nothing less.

Although the wackos won't tell you this, the Earth flushes itself four times a year. Melting glaciers in the Arctic? They don't tell you about the build up of new snow and ice in the Antarctic.

It is all a lie that man has or can do anything about the environment. It is all about money and control!

As I have said before, Mount St Helen spewed out more pollutants in one eruption than man has done in his total time on Earth put together.

Are they now going to demand we control volcanoes? Fat chance of that happening!

Its not only greed, its selfishness, not thinking about others, just plain old live in the now and forget about tomorrow thinking.

Since that is wrong, yes it is sin.

Not just because its selfish behaviour, but because when you abuse the environment, you eat away at the rights of other living beings. And God does not forgive such a thing unless the living beings forgive you first.

I understand what you are saying about waste, but I think it is terribly sad that you judge people and say they are not good people simply because they do not meet your expectations and definition of being respectful to the environment.
I do believe good stewardship includes doing our best to take care of the earth.
But I also believe that "taking care of the earth" can become idolotrous in nature and people can begin to worship the creation instead of the Creator.

well, Adam and Eve's first job was to take care of their environment, so I guess the environment should have some consideration.

are you talking spiritually at all, or just in the "green" sense? Cuz it may not be a blatent sin, but harming the body (pollution, terrible living conditions) is a bad thing in general...

I doubt God cares what we do to this place since Earth is basically just a train station when you think about it. Most of us will be here for 70, 80 years? That's a tiny drop in a very large bucket when you consider that the rest of ETERNITY will be spent elsewhere.

Good point. I'm sure on some level, it is disrespecting God or whoever created the world. It's like giving a child a new toy and then the kid breaks it right away. It must be frustrating for any deity.

I do. We are supposed to be the caretakers of the planet. We should take what we need and be good custodians of the rest. Most of our environmental problems can be traced back to plain old greed.

Yes, I think it is a sin. And like any sin, it separates us from God. That's why He sent His son to be our savior.

And just as I say to anybody who is unwilling to accept Christ as their Lord and Savior - "Live it up, sin all you want, because if you don't take Christ as your Lord and Savior, your life here on this planet is all you've got."

BTW - The sin of abusing the planet causes the same separation from God as the sin of worshiping the creation instead of the creator.

I look at it as something truly horrible. We are supposed to be the care takers of the earth. How is wasting our resources taking care of that which has been entrusted to us? I have always had an issue with this - as it is unbelievable to me that those who so strongly preach of God's love could so destroy his world.
