What's up with that?

2007-02-24 15:15:28 · 41 answers · asked by Anonymous in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

I see I'm getting the same old answers from atheists, which is disappointing. Atheism is not a belief system like Islam, Judaism or Christianity, so why would atheists even visit a board on Religion and Spirituality? That boggles the mind. Yahoo really should create an Atheism category, but what would they talk about? "Joe, you still don't believe in God, do you?" "No, John, I still don't believe in God. You?" "No."

Because i used to test the believers to prove that there was no God... but the 'fight' went around and round.... I believe now and Know the truth!!! I used to be atheist and found God on my own with NO help from anyone.. really. the reasons i would ask questions was to prove there was no God, OR because I was curious how people can believe something that they cant see. i also wanted to prove that what I was taught was right.. there is no God......

This is a question and answer board. Where else would someone ask a question regarding god's existence or lack there of?

If you're going to condemn other people for their beliefs then you might as well just join the ranks of Hitler as far as I'm concerned.

Grow up. Stop critisizing other just because they don't beleive what you believe. If an Atheist walked into your church one day would you kick them out?

You do realize that an attitudes like yours have wreaked havoc on the world in the past? If you're confident and secure in your own faith then good for you. If you expect people to accept you for what you believe then you have to be willing to accept others for what they believe. If you can't accept this world for the diverse cultures within then you should just crawl into a hole and stay there. Along with every other person who can't accept cultural/religious diversity.

Get over yourself and be happy in YOUR world! Stop hating those that don't live in your world. Where does that get you anyway?

Because they can. Some just want to be irritating and mock but a few do ask legit questions. I sometimes wonder the motives behind that as well. I don't believe 9/11 was a conspriacy so I don't visit the loosechange forum and belittle them. I suppose some do want believers to think and question. I suppose it depends on the person and what their goal is. It doesn't really matter what others believe. If someone's faith is shaken by someone on here, their faith or disbelief wasn't that strong to begin with.

Sigh. How many times has this question been asked? Atheists wind up on here for two reasons:
#1 Most of us are not in "Religion & Spirituality" specifically. We're in "All Answers", and every once in a while we see a question that catches our eye. (Especially the ones addressed to atheists, or asking about atheists.)
#2 We have just as much of a right to come in here and join the discussions as anyone else. Most of the questions are questions for ALL people.

Do you think atheism is not a belief system? Do you think that only people who agree with you have a right to discuss such matters in such a forum?

Atheism is an approach to life without a God. It is every bit as much a system of belief and a philosophy as those who assert belief in tree spirits, Vishnu, or Jesus.

(By the way, congratulations on reaching level 3)

If you are going to ask a question about god/s, isnt it logical to ask those who believe in god/s? What you are suggesting is that people who do not believe in god/s shouldnt ask questions about god/s to the people who actually believe in them.. that makes no sense. If you are going to ask a question about a dog, do you ask a musician? no, you ask a person who has experience with dogs. Same thing goes for religion, if you are going to ask a question about it logically you should ask someone who is religious.

PS Just in case you havent noticed when you write a question it automatically chooses the appropriate category.. If I asked "What is your religion?" its going to be categorized as a question that belongs in the R&S section. Really what other category does it belong under?

I disagree with most of the atheists answers to this question. I haven't noticed that atheists ask questions about God all that much? Why ask a question about something you don't believe in? I think you really want to know why atheists come here at all. And those reasons given for that were succinct and cogent.

Maybe they're just curious. I'm not a Buddhist, but maybe I want to know what kinds of things their religion asks of them - just like I would ask a scientist why this chemical reacts with another.

But then, I'm not an atheist (Christian, here), so I wouldn't know.

If there was an Atheism section, believers would intrude on their peace and communion too. It's the way human beings are.

Well, what other board should an atheist ask questions about God other than the religion and spirituality section, lol!
