i am 27 y.o I met a girl on line she is a singer i told her that she has a great voice and beautiful but only now realized that she is only 17. did i do something illegal? or am i just being paparnoid. i stopped talking to her.

There's nothing wrong with chatting with a 17 year old online as long as it isn't sexual. And in some states in the USA, 17 is the legal age. And in the UK, 16 is the legal age.

No, although it does get sketchy online. I think its a good thing that you stopped talking to her.
17 i think is the legal age of concent in all states. It goes lower in some. I forget which ones, but the lowest i've seen in USA is 14. ALthough there are stipulations to that. If its 17 in your state and you go to the other state thats the age is 14 solely to hook up with 14 year olds, you're held to the 17 year old standards and thats illegal.
Since you didn't initiate anything sexual, you're good.
Little known fact, off topic, law might have changed in the past few years. But you can look at pictures of naked 6 year olds legally, as long as they are not in a sexual act (not advocating this), Its not porn its "art"...yeah extremely B.S., but i thikn you're very very far from breaking a law.

You complimented her. You did nothing wrong. Now you know of her age I would not recommend saying to her again she is beautiful. If you knew she was 17 at the time you may have done something inappropriate, but definitely not illegal. I wouldn't worry about it and if you do communicate with her again leave the sexual innuendos out.

As long as you did not have sex with her its not illegal . I wont have sex with anyone under 18 . preferably 21 so we can both drink .

A lot of underage women do not give any thought to pursuing an older man and will lie about there age

You're being paranoid. As long as you keep it clean and don't try to arrange a meeting for sexual purposes, you have nothing to worry about. So talk to her again and explain your absence. Clear the air and maybe you want to tell her that it was out of respect for her due to the difference in your ages. But ten years at that age is a big gap, so watch it or somebody's going to get hurt.
