Steaming your face doesn't "open" your pores. It prepares and softens your skin for extractions. However long you steam your face for is about the amount of time you have to do extractions. Using tea tree oil is actually very harsh and drying to your face. There are actually very few oils you should put on your face that won't cause clogging of your pores.

I don't know about steamy water but I DID hear that Vitamin E capsules really help when they are put directly to face and tea tree oil helps a bunch too. :))

rather than holding a basin of hot water and putting your face over it to catch the steam, why not throw a wet towel into the microwave for just 30 seconds and put that steamed towel over your face for a few minutes?
tt's much more relaxing.

I have done this before, it feels good. I usually keep my face over the water until I "feel" like my pores have opened, your face will feel damp. Usually a minute or two will do. ;)

Only as long as you feel comfortable.
Remeber: steam's temperature is over 100 degree C so it can cause burns, too.
Best is to do it intermittently like put your face on for a few seconds and then remove it, then again for a few secs.

yes steam can open your pores, but usually people dont want pores to open. but if you are going to take steam, dont forget to apply ice on your face-that way no permanent damage will be done.

only about 5 minutes. it should be used as part of a skin care regimen. Cleanse your skin first, exfoliate, steam, mask, wash off, toner, and moisturizer! :)
