Just wondering if there are any athiests who have actually looked into the evidence FOR God with a sincerely seeking heart as most I have come across either tend to be uninterested in looking at evidence for God as they really dont want to know the truth as it would interfere with how they want to live their lives.

If you dare go to www.versiontraker.com and review the EVIDENCE. If possible do this with an open mind. Then tell me if you still dont believe.

racheal G: you obviously didnt read the information at the website I gave as there are lots of dates and places if you scroll down. there only is one truth, if everybodys truth was truth then they would cancel each other out! I think I am the same as you, except Im no longer lost!

I noticed some of you are ex-Christians. Know that God will never give up on you even though you have given up on Him.

Those who have sincerely sought after God, He will be revealed to you 'seek and ye shall find'

I looked very, very carefully at the evidence before making my decision. As a matter of fact, I was a devout Baptist before I became an atheist. And the only reason I did finally end up doing so is because I thought I'd figure out how to disprove the fact of evolution, and ended up becoming a Darwinist instead. ; )

And of course, like virtually every other atheist out there, I do not belive with 100% certainty that God doesn't exist. I just find it highly improbable that He/She does.

First of all, what evidence for God? That doesn't even make any sense. The most basic part of Christianity is that we're told to "just have faith" when it comes to accepting everything. Either there's no evidence and you need to have faith, or there IS evidence and you DON'T need faith. You can't have it both ways.

I find it hard to believe that there's any atheist who hasn't done a great amount of personal searching to come to that conclusion. We've all done it. I tried hard to become a Christian, I really did. But it reached a point where I had two options: Either reject it, or convert and lie to myself about what I believe to be true. And when faced with those options, I'm not going to choose the latter.

It has nothing to do with "how I want to live my life". My problems with Christianity have become more and more as times go by -- things I find illogical, or absurd, or just plain unbelievable. It used to be one or two things; now I could probably list more than twenty. I didn't just wake up one morning and decide that; I researched, studied, debated, and thought for a long time. I'm sure that almost all non-Christians here have done the same.

One of my favorite quotes: Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

If I said I ate cereal this morning (I did) that is probably sufficient evidence for most people that I did.

However, when you claim that all of existence was created by a "god," you have a lot of work to do. There scant "evidence" you do present is hardly close to enough.

You make a mockery of all the word "evidence" stands for.

1. The fact we exist
2. A book says god did it
3. A lot of people believe it

Is not enough for you to say that you understand THE CREATOR OF THE WHOLE UNIVERSE. Do you really understand the magnitude of what you are claiming?

The fact is, by inventing "god," you make an improbable event, all of existence coming into being(assuming it hasn't always been here) more improbable. An intelligent and powerful being capable of creating existence is much harder to explain that just said existence. If you say god has always been here, why can't the same be said of the universe?

The "evidence" you have on your site pales even in comparison to 9/11 conspiracy theorists. You take one piece of evidence and hold it up to the vast body of contradicting evidence and try to make a case based on it. (like the creationists who try and find holes in the fossil record, incorrectly thinking that ONE find somehow INVALIDATES all the other evidence.)

You make a mockery of all the word evidence stands for.

Why do Christians think that Atheists never were Christians? Most Atheists were Christians that left the religion because they realized how ridiculous it sounds. And it generally never happens overnight, its a gradual thing. Most Atheists attempted to keep their belief intact but eventually just realized it no longer made sense.

There is NO evidence for your religion. None whatsoever except for biased uneducated Christian sources desperate to prove that your religion is the truth which they'll never be able to do.

atheism is a conscious choice. i think you'll find that 90% or more of atheists grew up in a religious household. you don't reject something like that on a whim.

quite the contrary, religious ppl typically blindly follow whatever faith they are born into.

EDIT: What amazes me is to look over the plethora of well reasoned, sincere answers. I am sorry to point out the obvious here: you don't find this caliber of response from typical Christians. If you don't believe me, just look around YA. We atheists are, by nature, pretty much loners when it comes to our beliefs, but seeing these responses makes me realize what good company I am in.

I'm an agnostic, and I'm still doing research.

The site you recommended was devoid of anything conclusive, though it did feature a great deal of purple prose and a raft load of exclamation points. Very exciting!!!

Now, since one good turn deserves another, I'll recommend "The Bible Unearthed" by Finkelstien and Silberman, "Why We Believe What We Believe" by Andrew Newberg, and "The Map That Changed The World," by Simon Winchester.

Happy reading.

The opposite could be asked of you Christians... Have you sincerely searched for the possibility that there isn't a God or do you just blindly believe?

They won't do it. It's easier to believe in nothing than to believe in something. To believe in nothing, that's just what you do....nothing. It would be way too much trouble to look at both sides before making judgment.Odd how they can cut down the Bible but then say they have never really read it for whatever the reason. That's like listening to a political debate but only hearing one candidate speak and form an opinion from just one side. Evolution?? Do yourself a favor and read "Tornado in a Junkyard" by James Perloff. I assume you won't take the time and interest to do this but if your serious about what you clam, read it. Heres a dare: Put your eyes and mind where your mouth is.

I've been reading all of what these Atheist have said. They say they used to be Christians, but truly I believe they just wanted to rebel. I mean, they say they knew faith, if they truly had faith than they would of look for God. They started replacing God with materialism, the started loving the world that's what caused them lose faith if they were Christians. If you start loving the world and displacing God for materialism than you will truly lose faith. They started with decisions such as not going to church, not reading the Bible, living a disorder life, and hearing other idiots opinion. If this ex-Christians truly wanted to make sense out of God than they should of not replace God for the world. I believe in God because of the many miracles that he has done for me. Thanks to him I have so many scholarships that I don't have to pay for college from my own money, thanks to him my family is united, thanks to him I have something to eat and and a place to sleep, thanks to him I am full of happiness and joy. I prefer to be happy and enjoy life than to be angry, hateful, and sad. Also, don't blame God for your misfortunes, blame yourself for your bad decision. God gave you concious, if not you would of all been like any other ANIMAL. Remember God still loves you all and he is still waiting for all of you to comeback home. God bless you all and I hope you will all come to your senses some day soon.

You dare me? I took you up on that and I found no EVIDENCE at all. Just some guy saying I did this or I did that....he cites no sources and gives no dates or places...the website is full of those annoying pop-ups and advertisements. And this you call EVIDENCE? And how dare you blithely say that atheists "really don't want to know the 'truth'...." Whose truth is that? Yours? Why not mine? Why isn't my "truth" as valid as yours? Just who do you think you are?
