I am LATE! I recently bought XP off of someone from an auction. Well, i got screwed because it has all sorts of errors, and also, the product key is not genuine, so says the Microsoft website.

I am going to buy the home version, but it's still $99.99 for the upgrade version. No chance they plan to ever lower the price? No, i'm not a cheapo. I am just curious. I would rather have the full version, but that's $200.00. The tax man hasn't paid me yet, but when he does, i'll be buying the full version. It's better to put a fresh install on the drive rather than upgrade over win98se.

I bought a computer from ebay for 265.00. It already had XP loaded on it. It has a 107 gb hard drive and 512 mb of memory. It has 4 cd rom drives including a dvd drive and both cd and dvd burners. You might be better off to check out ebay.

I bought a desktop computer with monitor and speakers, XP loaded, from Dell for $299. Even got free shipping. You just have to be on the lookout for specials.

MS has just extended support for XP for another 5 years. I guess they realize we are all not going to run out and buy new PCs to run Vista - item below.

Microsoft Extends XP Service (Buffalo News, 1/29/07)
REDMOND, Wash. (AP) - Qn the eve of the consumer launch of its new Windows Vista- operating system Tuesday (Jan. 30, 2007) Microsoft Corp. is extending the period in which it will offer support for the previous version, Windows XP.

Consumers who own Windows XP machines already were entitled to get customer service on the software up until April 2009. That date reflects Microsoft’s policy of curtailing its support for an edition of Windows two years after a new version hits the market.

Microsoft recently said consumers who still have Windows XP running April 2009 will be entitled to five more years of “extended support.” In the extended plan, consumers will still get security fixes, but instead of free service from the Microsoft help desk, they will have to pay for most assistance.

Microsoft said the move was meant to bring the support policies for consumers in line with what businesses already have.

Vista has been available for big businesses since Nov. 30, 2006, but hits the consumer PCs market as of Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007

You could try and buy an OEM version from CDW.com or newegg.com, you may have buy some memory or other hardware though to qualify for an OEM license
