As I was submitting this question - began to feel sick to my stomach and actually threw up within minutes of feeling sick. I had just taken another dose of Musinex about 15 minutes prior - as directed. Do you think the infection, medicine or head/face pain caused the nausea? And should I take more Musinex since I threw up so soon after taking it?

the pain is caused by all the junk in your sinuses that's putting pressure on everything around it. it may help if you take a decongestant, like sudafed. nose spray may be the best though (in one study it was shown to be just as effective as antibiotics). just go to the drug store and get nasal saline (no meds in it, it's just salt water). rinse your nose with it 4 times a day (including before bed). then you'll essentially be rinsing all the stuff out on it's own so the sinuses can drain. ibuprofen may help some with the pain, but i'm not sure. the pain won't go away until the sinus are draining properly.

Hopefully you are taking something for the pain, like ibuprofen or tylenol. If that isn't helping, ask your doctor for something a bit stronger.

Your pain isn't unusual for a bad sinus infection. What you can do is alternate warm and cold packs on that side of your forehead and face. Place a warm washcloth there for 10 minutes, then hold an ice pack (or a bag of frozen veggies wrapped in a cloth) over your sinus for 10 minutes. Do that every hour to help localize the infection and help it drain.
Be sure and drink fluids, to thin the mucous. Sleep with your head on at least 2 pillows so the sinus can begin to drain. If you have a cool mist vaporizer, run it during the night. If not, place a few pots/bowls of water in your bedroom near the heat vents to help moisturize the air. Change the water daily for the next 3 days or so.

I have found that products like Mucinex, Sudafed, etc can sometimes make sinus congestion worse. They seem to cause the mucous to "dry up", rather than drain as it needs to. If it were me, I would lay off the Mucinex for at least half a day, and let the stuff start to loosen up and drain.
Hope you feel better very soon!

It will lessen after the first dose and feel much better after the second,. For now put a warm washcloth over the side of your face. It should help some. If it doesn't try to cool washcloth but generally heat helps especially wet heat.

warm compresses or steam can relieve some of the pain, along with tylenol . you may have thrown up due too insufficient amount of food intake with meds. read your prescription thoroughly and see what it says ...full or empty stomach. a massive sinus infection will cause the type of pain your describing and same with location. i have had them too many times to count ... and all severe!
