You will have to be very observant when the baby comes.
Use treats to teach the dog to get out of the bassinet and begin to teach him tricks that involve staying on the floor. You will want to make it FUN to be in places he is SUPPOSED to be.
I tell this to all of my clients with babies or who are expecting- it's about being careful, not about lecturing you. You know this, but never leave even the friendliest dog unattended with your baby for even an instant. If you leave the area, either the dog or the baby or both must go with you. Even friendly dogs can accidentally hurt babies very badly.
Congratulations on your new family member!

Hopefully this is the first time you saw your dog do this. If you have noted it before and allowed it; you will be causing animosity between him and the baby now if you suddenly kick him out of it because "Baby" has arrived, I would seriously go and purchase another bassinet for the Baby and get off on the right foot. Never let the animal assume a position of authority or ownership with something you have not designated to him as allowable. Even his bed, toys and his food and bones he must allow you to handle and remove him from or take from him; or he should never be permitted around a child let alone a baby.

Start keeping the dog out of the room now. Keep the door closed so he can't go in there BEFORE you have the baby. If you try and keep the dog out after you have your baby, the dog could get jealous and not like the baby. Do you have a dog bed for your dog? If you don't you should buy one. If you do, then teach him to sleep in his dog bed.

some sort of barrier (like a baby gate) around the bassinet may help, but if that is not possible, you may consider a crib or something that the dog can't get into at all...if all else fails get the doggie his own bassinet!!

close the door to the room that the bassinet is in and get a baby monitor so you can hear the baby when you're in the other room and the dog can't get in there to tip it over.

Give him the bass. He'll never forgive you for taking his new found bed away. And with it being so critical with a new baby you don't want the dog to become jealous because they will and he'll want to be center of attention. Introduce the baby to him and everything. My sister just had a baby and had to go through the same thing.
Good luck

put something there so that the dog won't be able to climb into it or wrap it in something so the dog won't have access to it. eventually the dog will lose interest and find a different place and you won't have to worry about it getting under there anymore.

You can find something for him at a yard sale and teach him to go to "his" bassinet or crib.

I would recommend some kind of repellent. The following website offers products that are safe for children and will keep pets out of certain areas.

huge mistake on your part for letting him go there. but i bet if you buy a nice cozy doggy bed he'll eventually go for that. my dog loved the couch downstairs, and we didnt realize he slept in it until recently. we bought him a doggy bed and it took him about 3 weeks to finally settle into it. maybe go to the pet store with your dog and see what beds he likes to lay down in.
